So this in fact proves one of us managed to pair a used fob from a different car to another car of the same era.

Taking one for the team :)
Just placed an order on carkeyhelp.co.uk, for an extra key, there seems to be mixed reviews, but there's a few people over at moneysavingexpert with 2K+ posts saying good things, and some random review sites with bad reviews.
They're just over £20 with the transponder and being cut (from a pic, yeah sounds a little suspect), with it being delivered here too, I don't think they're going to be the exact same key as the one I have got but hopefully good enough as a spare key. £20 is kind of the sweet spot between an unknown 2nd hand key, and paying £60-£70 for the real deal. Will let you know when I get it.

I note that they supply the keycode if a photo is provided.
Presumably, they have software which derives the code from the photo, rather than trying to copy the photo profile directly.

most likely or a reference chart for deciding which one it is. Have seen on their testimonials, that someone sent in a poor quality pic, and it was slightly wrong, it was enough to open the door, but not enough to turn the ignition, a free replacement was sent apparently.

I don't know what C5 keys are like but I know Xantia keys are hard to get good copies cut of even with an original in hand at the locksmiths. Over three different Xantias we've had very poor success rate in getting copies cut, usually they'll open the doors but not operate the ignition or vica versa. It seems that the dual axis key blade is a challenge for your average corner locksmith...

Don't want to sound pessimistic, but I can't see this working, certainly not for all the functions needed for the C5. I'll be delighted to be proved wrong though.

hence why my post started with "Taking one for the team" :) I'm going in with pessimism so hopefully will come out pleasantly surprised.

Fingers crossed for you Ben :)
My only "wonder" is how will the key be paired with the car, without them having the car? :(
Or is this only for the blade?

That part I think I will be doing with my Lexia. They do provide instructions apparently. I have my Immo code anyway, so we shall see. Definitely will be posting back with whatever happens anyway.

well, I rang gallalock.com and it was some indian guy who asked if I lived near muswell hill.....aparently they know someone who can code the fobs to my car. I don't, I live absolutely miles away so he said he could send me a key fob, but I am reluctant incase It cannot be programmed to my car with a lexia....and further bad news was from citroen, who quoted me £280.00 for a replecement fob and said there would be an additional charge if I didn't have my four digit code, which i am trying to obtain from birdman.... I certainly have no plans to pay citroen almost three hundred quid for a key,so for now,it's going to be either left unlocked during the cold spell or hot water in the morning to get it moving.... I think that is a massive rip off personally....

ben, I had a look on that site and proceeded to order a key, only went so far, but it didn't seem to be asking me for a pic of the key? just my delivery details etc?? how does it work? cheers....cos if it does, I wouldn't mind getting one as a spare? I only have one key, which isn't good, thanks.....

hi derek, I have looked on the site ben has been on and they offer to cut a key,if you have either the key code, or a good digital picture, they are either very clever or very optimistic, but I hope it works because I wouldn't mind a spare and also yes, I think i might take a chance on a cheap one off e bay and see if it can be done....mandrake put some instructions on here as a download file, did you see it?? cheers,dean..

And,even if the one ben receives works, it says on the site that it still needs to be programmed to work with the vehicle immobiliser system?? this would surely also need to be done with a lexia??
