Activa in the snow

Unread post by 6speedmanual »

As per here... http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... 31#p351731

I fitted my winter tyres to the Activa last weekend. Hurray for the snow fall in the last 24 hours.

Very inpressed with the Activa's behaviour in the slippery conditions.
Obviously roll control is not really a big issue in low grip conditions. However, having Anti Roll Bars which are effectively decoupled when tarvelling along straight or when stationary is definately advantageous in terms of keeping the weight distribution between the wheels as even as possible.

Excellent traction and stability. :-D

You know, even after having Activas continuously for the past 6 or so years I've never ever taken one out in the snow.

I'm sure they're good as a V6 is absolutely excellent...

Mine was always excellent in the snow with the M+S tyres on.

Don't recall any problems since I got a tyre more suited to the Activa on, but then I probably haven't driven in snow as much.

For sure, the tyres fitted to a lot of these 'modern' cars are useless in snow - I've seen some on a Passat with the old F1 style grooves in!

Activa in the snow you say? This was mine in the work car park the other day. Glad I took a broom with me to clear the windows... :)

She's on her winter wheels at the moment, I may have got round to having her Activa rims tarted up in time for the X-rally... :-D

Activa in the snow you say? This is mine, back in 2010 up North parked outside my mum's - on a 1:5 hill. It took me 4 goes to stop there - I'd brought my gran down from her house for xmas day, and she's not mobile, so I had to stop in exactly the right place to get her across the path. Obviously, with ABS, I just went sailing straight past the house every time. The final time I pulled the handbrake on and just let it slide to a stop.

A couple of days earlier, I drove 22 miles over the county roads like this in it , not many people came to work that day :

And here she is, parked safely in the car park after that trip :

It's not the best thing I have driven in the snow, but it's not too bad. The best thing was my mum's Suzuki Jimny in 4wd on skinny tyres. Unstoppable.
