John, the cat is right under the car beyond the engine, which is something that doesn't help much as it's quite a way from the manifold and can suffer from not running hot enough...

I recall my MOT man saying he had to get the engine and cat really hot before it registered a pass last time...

The oxygen sensor is in the top of the downpipe right by the manifold but on looking at the I'd agree with Richard, the oxygen sensor is working...

Cat it is....

thanks Jim..

GSF seem to do one for 70.. and as the car ought to have lower arms i may pop into one of the West London shops on Sat morning..
also a friends CRV thing needs mid to rear exhaust.. she wondered why it was a bit loud.. the rear can was snapped off and hanging over back axle lol

Saturday shopping it is then.. :)

well. the 206 did in fact pass, with a new cat (about £100) but to be honest it was very close to failing.. depsite the car being driven there (about 10 miles) and left running for some time, the first emissions attempt was a fail..so he thankfully retried.. he had to hold the revs very high for a very long time to bring numbers into the green.. I did change air filter but nothing else was done..
new cat is about twice the size of old one

But well done on the pass!

Good to hear that John :-D And pleased for the owner too.. I did email her asking for news on it but never received a reply :(

How it passed is exactly the treatment that was needed to get Robyn's through...

There must be a reason...

I blame the Magnetti Minarelli Injection... Never have those kinds of problems with Bosch injection...

thanks all

:)
the lower arms also failed! for all the times I have found them hard - 306 especially, these were so easy! I did add spring compressors while car weight was on the shocks... - i know some dont have problems with lower ball joint insertions..but I do, badly :O

the psa tool for these are small metal pegs, that go into shocks and you twist them to lock into upper and lower spring plate, then the spring is compressed..

do those `pour in the tank` cat cleaner things actually do anything (eg work at all)?

i think its probably a lambda sensor at the end of its life if it has to get that hot to pass the emission test

Nope, unless I've cornered the market in dodgy ones off the 'bay Malcolm. I've seen a 206 struggle with a new cat and oxygen sensor and a good quality one at that...

They're just bloody difficult and that's all there is to it... The Italians might make good pasta but their injection systems are rubbish...

cant remember what car it was but i fitted a new cat and lambda sensor from E*C*P, the L/S was in a Bosch box ( fake???? ) it still failed the emissions test, so i fitted the original one and the car passed
