Xantia hydraulic pipe front to rear replacement

Just had the MOT done and have been told that I need to replace a pipe that runs from front to back.

The following pictures show where the pipe runs from back to the front bulkhead, but after that I don't know where it goes, does anyone have a diagram or photo's or a very clear description that may help me at all? The garage wants £360 to replace the 3 suspension pipes and won't do just the one (fair enough, I understand that).

To be honest, I could do with someone to help me as it's the middle of winter and I don't have a drive, let alone a garage to work in, I would be MOST grateful if anyone would be able to help me out.

I'm in Bradford BTW.

I would be inclined to just cut out the rusty section and join a piece in, that's what I have done mostly. Plaieds used to supply the pipe, tool and couplings, don't know if they still do though.

Thanks, I'm considering purchasing the parts and fixing it myself, seems to be the most cost effective. If I do, I'll get some vids / photo's of the repair.

The FIRST Picture is showing your Actual Brake Pipe line...

This pipe drops down and goes to the front, it then kicks up over the front subframe, then if you remove your air cleaner, it then goes into the square group of pipes that come upwards..

I assume your car has ABS, I didn;t catch what model you had before I klicked reply... anyway, if you do have ABS that pipe which incidentally is 4.5mm runs to the ABS block, and I think it goes to the TOP FRONT (standing infront of the car looking straight at the ABS block) of the block...

Yes its a single pipe front to back...

In ALL honesty as far as the other pipes are concerned I would simply give them a DAMM good rub down with sand paper, and then re paint them with underseal...

An MOT tester will always advise replacment and not repair for any pipes..

The other pipes will be a bit awkward at the front to remove.. beleve me, Ive done and removed a few pipes.

If the other pipes which are 3.5mm arent too bad, Id simply rub them down, and reseal them... much simpler then replacment.

I'm sure that the first picture is NOT a brake pipe, the reason being that I have replaced one of the brake pipes on the back (pic.3) and you can see that it goes into the 'K' also, if you follow the brake pipe from the Pic.1, through Pic.2 and on to Pic.3 it enters the 'K' in Pic.3.

It seems to be the same pipe that this thread is about.

Which Side of the car is that first pic???

The brake feed comes to the K joint on the Passenger side, and the hydraulic feed goes to the Drivers side K splitter...

I guess I couldn;t distuinguise which side your picture is showing....

Ive JUST stripped all pipes off a rear subframe today, and chucked it in the next car to go... Kept ALL the pipes though..

The first picture is the drivers side, so it's definitely the hydraulic feed. I don't suppose you got any photo's while you were stripping did you?

Ah that confirms it then.. it runs as a single pipe from the rear to i think now the brake valve 5 way manifold joins which are bolted to the bulk head... as the rear suspension works through the brake valve Im sure it does...

Thanks, that's cleared it up a bit, I don't suppose you know of any decent photo's of said area? I'm only asking as you seem to have been here some time (6616 posts)

Ok, still not done the job yet, but can anyone give me any tips as to what I need to remove under the engine bay in order to access the pipes near the bulkhead?

Come on, someone must have done this job already

I have found a photo of the rear subframe removed, if I enlarge it, I can follow the pipe (ignore the green arrows)

I had to replace both rear brakes pipes on the rear calipers and then the front to rear supply pipe from ABS block

The above link will give you an idea what I did.

It wasn't a difficult job just awkward and limited access especially at the bulkhead to run piping.
