Hi people, i have a C3 which usually won't unlock or start until i've reset the BSI either by dis/re-connecting the battery or by briefly removing the shunt 'fuse' from the BSI unit. I decided as i must live with this problem it would be better to have a switch in place of the shunt which seemed an easy enough thing to accomplish even with my limited knowledge, so i removed the BSI unit, opened it & soldered two wires onto the bottom of the corresponding terminals to attach a switch to.
After reassembling & refitting the unit i connected the two wires to an old brake pedal stop switch which i thought would be ideal as it is 'on' by default.
When i reconnected battery the BSI activated as usual, so evidently the circuit is working and pressing the switch of course cut the power but releasing the switch did nothing at all, instead of the BSI powering on again as i expected it to it remained 'dead' as if the switch contacts had stuck open. But, curiously if i then do nothing except dis/reconnect battery the BSI will power up again so the switch contacts are clearly closed and are passing current so what's going on, why is it apparently working fine as a link but not at all as a switch? I cannot get my head around that.
Should i be using a 'bigger' switch, or a relay instead of a switch (assuming i can find one that's usually 'on') and just use the switch to operate (disconnect) the relay??
Regards & thanks in advance.

Re: BSI 'shunt' switch?
What about finding the cause of the fault in the first place ? Two things off hand I can think of that can cause this problem is either an incorrectly fitted aftermarket radio or a faulty com2002. Have to had the fault looked at ? Something is causing the BSI to shut down & Lexia may point you in the right direction.

Re: BSI 'shunt' switch?
Hi, i'm afraid it still has it's original Clarion radio and Lexia reports the fault as "communication with transponder" which as far as i can gather indicates either a faulty com2002 unit, or a faulty BSI unit or possibly a fault somewhere in the wiring between the two. I believe it most likely is the com2002 unit but i don't know that for certain and i can't afford to buy one in the hope it does sort the problem out, in case it doesn't.

Re: BSI 'shunt' switch?
Well at least i don't feel quite as thick as i thought i must be for not being able to work this one out myself. If anyone's interested, i tried a relay (30A, i think) instead of that switch but with the same result, it worked fine as a link but it only switched off, wouldn't switch back on.
I gave up, removed the wires from the BSI and i'll have to get a com2002 & hope that's what's at fault.
Rang citroen dealer for a price today, £240.08 ouch. I've seen them on ebay from scrapped cars so i asked if one from another car would work but he said definately no, it is specific to the car.
If that's right then i guess it means it must need to be programmed so is this something that can be done using Lexia or will i need to get them to do it.. does anyone know please?

Re: BSI 'shunt' switch?
I don't think they need to be programmed, they should just work.
However if you have stabilty control or anything like that fitted (a yaw sensor I think on the column area) then it would need coding in.
The main problem with used ones is getting the correct one as there are quite a few, the wrong one may actually work sometimes but is likely to cause other issues.
I'm not a C2K fan at all really, they seem to cause more problems than they solve sometimes.
