peugeot 806 haunted indicators

Unread post by wirdip »

Hi folks,
I have an old (1996) 807 which started ticking (from the indicator relay) at random times and for random periods, the back light fitting was cracked and water was getting in so I thought this was the problem and changed light, still ticking. Then when indicating the direction light comes on steady (no on/off) so I changed indicator relay, no difference. Then indicator switch would not go to the right turn position so have replaced that. I now have working indicators, which suddenly stop flashing and go constant and intermittently the right turn fails to work unless I push the stalk up slightly. Has anyone else any knowledge of this problem, if so HELP!!!! it's driving me mad. #-o

That still sounds like a faulty indicator stalk, the clicking / buzzing and wiggling the switch are classic symptoms of it.

It is a very common problem on the Xantia. Often a good blast with compressed air can relieve the symptoms on a temporary basis or else you can try disassembling the stalk assembly and cleaning up the contacts. It's not the contacts themselves that are the problem more the conductive dust that gets embedded in the grease between them. A clean and re-grease usually brings complete satisfaction but the stalk can be a bit daunting to take apart - there’s a lot of springs and bits in there but if it's duff anyway you have nothing to loose...

It seemed very common on the 306's , I changed countless ones. Same stalk in most cases as other models but they did not seem to suffer quite as much, no idea why.

It is interesting to try to put them back together though, but as Jim says if tis already broken there's nothing to really lose.
