Xantia sx against temptaion

Unread post by froggy »

Hi, just driven my fathers series 1 Xantia sx. comparing it , to my Xantia temptation ( both 1997 models) the sx has much lighter steering and quieter cab ! would the sx have better sound proofing ? and what would I need to look at to make my steering as good as the sx. cheers Terry . :o

What is the Temptaions' mileage, and how is the LHM? The LHM should be changed every 36,000 miles, with the third change having a hydraflush cycle to clean out the pipework and valves, etc. No promises, but crud in the pipework could restrict the pneumatics (suspension, steering, and brakes).

I'm not immediately aware of any difference in sound deadening materials between the models.

Differences in power steering feel can be down to several things - tyre type and size, tracking, a bit of stiffness in the steering column UJs or a weakness in the power steering half of the pump as well as tired LHM.

This is a strange phenomina I have it wih my C5s, the 2.2 is much quiter and gives a better ride than the 2.0. I think possible explantions are: the spheres on the 2.0 are shot giving reduced suspension movement and more vibration in the car which I believe is responsible for more rattles.

Secondly the tyres, there is much less road noise in the 2.2 which I am sure is down to the tyres as pretty well everything else is identical.

There is also more engine noise in the cab at tickover, the engine cover is missing on the 2.0 and I am wondering if it makes that much difference but I can't think of any other reason.

But, the 2.0 averages 50+ mpg :-D the 2.2 barely 40mpg :( and its easier to work on, that's why Im keeping it, oh, and its a nice colour.

There was a big difference in sound deadening between my Dads 1994 2.0i SX petrol and my 1997 2.0i VSX petrol, mine was MUCH quieter internally at all speeds especially at high speeds where it was quiet almost like a brand new car with very little engine or road noise.

Both cars had the same 8 valve petrol engine and HP14 gearbox and sounded equally noisy from the outside or under the bonnet. So I have to conclude that the VSX spec had thicker or better sound deadening materials inside the cabin especially along the firewall...

Hi Richard,

Yes I have neard the Later units are good, which IS good, because if EVER we did get a C6 it would be a 2.2, and as long as they are the newer 2.2 then Im happy....

I didn't disbelieve you Paul, I only bought the 2.2 because it was very cheap and gave me a good introduction to C5s. Its done its job now and I shall be selling it, hopefully for more than I paid
