Unread post by Paddy77 »

Hi all
Hope someone can help the heater blower on my 2004 VTR c5 has jused stopped only have the car a few weeks & its been fine on till one morn last week, I have tried a s/h control mudle as there is a breakers very closes by but it's still the same the panel on the dash works for afew secs then goes to off I thinking the s/h control modul I got was no good as the fore c5's in the yard only one had the part left so what I won't to ask is when I put 12v to the blower it comes on full speed but the wires get hot (is this the wire to fine) am I ok to put thicker wire with a inline fuse & an off switch to run the fan on till I can get the new part as out of work at the mo & am doing the school run in the morns & it's getting cold, any thoughts at all are welcome sorry about the long post I do go on a bit thanks for reading as all ways all the best.

The motor takes about 20 amps so you do need pretty thick wire, a temporary supply is just what I would use, you will need a fairly hefty switch as well or use a relay. Have you checked the fuse that supplys it?

Hi Peter
Yes all fuses are fine, from reading amount the net they all say that its this control mudle that goes so started there, do not know about relays so will have just use some thick wires, do you know best place to get the wires through bulkhead to the engine so can do direct from the battery as dontwon't to tap in to any of the car eletricks, will only use it in short bursts, thank you again Peter for taking the time ont are you the only one on hear Lol .
As all ways.
Thanks & all the best Paddy

If you are going to fit new lead directly to the battery, then I'd suggest you fit a fuse as well

He did say he was going to fit a fuse and will need at least a 30 amp one. There is a fairly hefty power supply for the electric seats, if you don't have them the wiring is there under the seats but you need to fit a Maxi fuse underneath the main fuseboard, you will see the empty holder, I think this is rated at 60 amps.

Hi thanks for the reply's guys, i could not do any work on the car today as had to do some running around for the wife & kids, has anyone any thoughts on the best way to get the wires to the battery any ways at the bulkhead or just have a look & see how it goes, I will let you know how I get on but your thoughts are most welcome on getting the wire to the battery.

Thank you yet again Peter
The ones I had been looking at we're £58 plus p&p do yu think it's the module are the dash display hreater control pannels know to play up, I think I will try one of the ones in the link do you think there are ok for that money as I gave £10 for the one from the breakers & they would nt take it back so should have just done it right from the start.sorry about all the q's.
Thanks again all the best Paddy

I have only recently joined the ranks of the C5 owners so haven't had a lot of experience with them yet and both my heaters work OK at the moment. If the control module circuit is anything like the one in the XM, they used to fail for a pastime so it will quite likely be that, it could possibly be a fault in the control panel because if it doesn't send the correct signal to the motor module it won't work. You could stimulate the XM one into action by earthing the thin signal lead that goes into the module plug but it then ran flat out, the control unit sends a variable voltage to the module to vary its output power but as I say I don't know if the C5 is the same.
