my citroen zx 2.0l 16v runs like a pearler but a week ago it let me down by not starting! it would turn over for ages but it wouldent catch in the end i had to jump it and it only just caught on. its as if an immobiliser is in place or an earth is loose but ive checked for loose wires around the engine and all seem to be ok(only a rough visual check)! there is no immobiliser on the car either. any way the same thing happened last nite it wouldent start again. so i left it over nite and went back this morning and it fired first time!!!
ive been told that the crank sensor maybe faulty, would that interfere with the starting?? also ive been told that its had a new crank sensor and has been fitted in the way of passing gear linkages only this has only just happened and ive owned tha car for 12 months now and ive never had this before!!
please help me as im getting stressed with the problem cos no one can sort it wen it behaves, it seems to do that when you mention the aa or garage to the car, lol!!!

Hi (sorry, did not catch your name)
What is a 'pearler'??
When your car would not start and you had to jump it, was that because the battery was low to start with, or because you had drained it trying to start?

[?]Do not quite understand what this bit means. Are you saying that the gear linkage is fouling the CAS? If so, it could be the problem. If the CAS is disconnected or faulty, your engine will not fire

sorry i get a bit carried away!
it seems to have some work done in the region of the crank sensor im not sure if it has been replaced or not! but the wiring in that region is all over the place, and i think it mite be fouling on gear linkages or possibly steering components!!
and a pearler means =minter or a good runner!!!

Ah - that is the first suspect, then; if it is fouling the gear linkage, sooner or later it will pack up altogether! [:(] Suggest disconnecting the leads from the CAS and having a good look at it to see if there is any chafing; repair if necessary (No Scotchloks or twisted joints allowed!!) and route it as it should be - sorry, cannot help on latter, as my ZX is an oil-burner (diesel!) without any of this electrickery.
If this does not fix it, you need to catch it in the act and see if there is a spark.
Is this the ZX that is 7mm or whatever from the ground? [;)][;)][}:)]

Not heard this one before - had mental image of someone on piecework frantically digging things out of oysters [:D] I have heard 'purler' as in 'take a purler' = 'land tits up'

Ah, knew there was a 7 in it somewhere! [}:)]
Uprated fuel pump? Didn't know there were such things! There again, there are lots more things I do not know [;)]
Surely it can only deliver what the carb or injector(s) need?
Or is it another 'snake oil' scenario, like the gold plugs for the audiophools?
I am interested!
