Not providing the same overall diameter is maintained using taller section tyres - unless the insurance company views it as a 'modification' of course.

I asked the question about steel wheels for peugeot 406, my son bought 2 15" steel wheels from a scrap yard who said the were from a peugeot 406 but when we tried the wheel on the car it was about 3/4" nearer the caliper so dont know if it was the right wheel can someone help please

Probably they were 306 wheels or for a drum braked model. Was it the fronts that were too close or the rear ?

I'd suggest the offset is probably wrong which is why its too "close" to the caliper.

As far as I can remember only the later ones had 16 inch alloy wheels, the rest were all 15's usually with 195/65/15 or 195/55/15, 65's were the more common I think.

Please bear in mind I'm working from memory from a long time ago now.

I'm not sure if the caliper design varies, I suspect not, only on the Coupe and V6 models would have the larger front caliper assembly.

I do not have access to any tech data at the moment although I'm not 100% sure it will display a great deal about this. I would be surprised if a 15 wheel from another 406 did not fit though.
Andy.

Yes the 1.9 / 2.1 diesels and the 1.8 / 2.0 petrols were (mostly) 15. Its when the shape changed and again later when they were plexed that more and more started to get 16"s

I have a 2000 xantia hdi 110 and the first thing we did was to try my wheels on the 406 and they fitted but there was very little clearance between the wheel and the caliper so he has decided to buy a wheel the same as the spare and two tires to fit
