WD-40 Wicki
Wintergreen oil is said to be an excellent penetrating/release oil and anti rust agent.
Seriously carcinogenic and toxic though.

Wintergreen? Is that the stuff old ladies liked to sniff? Smelling Salts?
The smell of it is absolutely bloody revolting.
On WD40 I see it's largely what we know as white spirit. No wonder I'm no fan of it. I'm allergic to white spirit...

Re: Penetrating Oil Advice
Years ago, nay, decades ago, I helped a pal fit a recon engine from BMC (or whoever they were called then) on a Mini; the "running-in oil" that it was supplied with had a weird smell and someone said that was wintergreen.
Wasn't smelling salts a mixture of ammonia and eucalyptus?
I'll stick with sniffing curry spices.
Jim; never tried drinking white spirit but it sure is useful for clock cleaning!

No, that was a pickled egg left on the exhaust manifold by one of the assembly workers Mike...uhn113x wrote:... had a weird smell and someone said that was wintergreen.
Clocks... That reminds me Mike. We must speak at some point when we both have time

Re: Penetrating Oil Advice
Mmmm ... pickled eggs ... Walnuts are even better.
OT, but that reminds me about something in one of the motoring comics years ago talking about wrapping various bits of grub in foil and tying them to the front pipe/manifold! I kid you not! Sausages, 30 miles; bacon, 20 miles et al.
Jim, your clock(s) - email me (better than PM as you'll probably need to attach pics) and we'll sort something.

Re: Penetrating Oil Advice
Dad has told me of boiling eggs in the rad header tanks on the lorries he used to drive during the war. He's got many great tales of his exploits with the RASC as a convoy mechanic and despatch rider... He had a good war - in parts... Going into Belsen with the liberation forces wasn't so good though...

Excellent Mike. I will do just thatuhn113x wrote: Jim, your clock(s) - email me (better than PM as you'll probably need to attach pics) and we'll sort something.

Re: Penetrating Oil Advice
My mother wasn't a Geordie - a Welsh Yorkshirewoman
although she was stationed on the sea front in Sunderland before shipping over to France/Belgium/Germany.
