Two-Tier Road Tax
The pollies are at it again
We all knew they'd eventually get hurt by all these low emission cars paying next to no road tax and thus killing a cash cow.
This from the Broken Biscuit Company (BBC)
And trying to privatise the roads too..
Happy days... For those in government that is. For the rest of us... Not potentially good but then when was it ever?

spoz you'll drive to the end of one road and wont be able to go any further as you dont
subscribe to the company that owns the next road

Re: Two-Tier Road Tax
It was ironic I accidentally posted this in For Sale and Wanted. It's title should have been 'Wanted: New Government. Must Have Common Sense'

Re: Two-Tier Road Tax
I like the sentence "Under the two-tier plan, part of a driver's Vehicle Excise Duty payments would go to private companies managing and investing in the road network" AKA look after my multi millionaire mates/Conservative Party donors by allowing them to squirrel away tax payers money.
I wonder if they'll try splitting up the roads like they did with British Rail, at the end of each journey you'll spend an hour sending payment to six different companies

Re: Two-Tier Road Tax
I was listening to Radio 2 this afternoon when they discussed this topic.
When they said about being charged to drive on motorways my first thought was;
"Great, only time I use them is to see the mother-in-law. Got an excuse not to go now. Brilliant!!!!"
Martin.

Re: Two-Tier Road Tax
What you seem to forget is in that headline is the word 'consider' when the last Labour lot 'considered' how to fund the needed upgrades of the roads the suggestions were: charging by the mile with senders in every car and trackers on every road and also the possibility of rationing road use to force private motorists onto the train or bus and leave the roads free for commercials.
Be careful what you wish for.

Re: Two-Tier Road Tax
A lower rate for those avoiding motorways...of course the flip side of this would be an even more packed A303 and A38! The strawberry sellers on the 303 would do well mind!
I'm not convinced.

You would think by now the motorists would stand up and be counted form a political group and vote out any thieving mp who would let something like this happen,But we won't we just bend over and let them shaft us.s**t of a country.

Re: Two-Tier Road Tax
You can bet that it would! The plans would not necessarily mean those using motorways pay more than at present, a Treasury source said.
Well, thats fine, my commute is all dual carrigeways and the nearest motorway is about 20 - 40 miles away. I can have one car on cheap tax and one car on motorway tax. Yeah, im sure that would work!

Re: Two-Tier Road Tax
Easy and fair answer to all this, get rid of road tax and put extra tax on fuel! You only pay for the miles you goGibbo2286 wrote:charging by the mile with senders in every car and trackers on every road and also the possibility of rationing road use
Make a "red diesel" equivalent for HGV's and Buses to stop fueling deliveries/inflation?

That would breach the Kyoto agreement, which is what got Gormless Gordo in trouble before.citroenxm wrote: and put tax up on veggie oil too....
