C5 heater controls - a mind of their own

My 2.0Hdi SX is throwing another wobbly, when you change settings on the heater control panel it does what it likes, for instance, if you switch it off of auto it puts the aircon on, closes the recirculating flap and shuts air off to the footwell, any suggestions

Is the external temp gauge showing correct readings, this can affect the operation of the heater

Thanks Lighty, I wondered about that as its showing about 65C, I think its the same sensor that the XM uses but on that all it does is show the temperature, I will get one.
