Which to keep, Pug 107 or fraud fusion?

I know these are two very different cars, 09 reg pug 107 was dealer courtesy car, I bought at 1yr old with 11000 miles and now done 47000, always serviced by myself every 10000 miles and is unmarked with a few slight mods and returns 60mpg regularly and I love its cheeky personality,

55-reg ford fusion 1.6tdci, known from new, belonged to my daughters father in law, he died over a year ago and it was transferred to my son in law and sorned then left garaged untill last month when the house was sold then transferred to me for a small amount of cash with a view to sell It. Was serviced on time by the owner, last one 1 month and 500 miles before he died at 41000 miles. It needed a new battery and new tyres, passed mot with one advisory (brake pipe slight corrosion) ant the tester commented on how sound a car it is, no signs of rust anywhere underneath or on body. Its now insured and taxed and I am running it on my lengthy commute (85 miles a day) just to see how it is.Now done 42000 miles, one very slight bump on front corner would need bumper and wing painted to make perfect. Returning 65mpg with me, but is the white goods of the car world, as interesting as watching the dishwasher!

Value wise, the 107 worth about £4000, the Fusion about £3000, and one has to go.

MY dilemma is that I have kind of been looking for a larger car that costs sweetie money to run for my commute, and can accommodate 4 passengers and have a decent boot which rules out my 107, or the wifes Mini, and this fusion actually ticks most of the boxes, apart from the said wife says it's an old mannies car, and I should not be thinking about it until I am at least 65 ( I'm 49 atm) and wearing a flat cap and string backed gloves!

Any ideas are welcome, sell one or the other or both and get something else, another C5 springs to mind, but it has to be cheap tax and good mpg, the last C5 I had I loved but was a 2.2hdi, cant remember the tax and only did early 40's mpg.

Also whilst on this subject (fusion1.6tdci) is the engine another example of the PSA 1.6hdi as I think the wifes mini is too?

I'd keep the 107, its a fun little car which costs buttons to run and its a real joy to drive. Certainly a car with a bit of character and you dont find that often these days, you certainly wont find it in a Fusion

As for the Fusion, I believe the 1.6TDCi is the same as the 1.6HDi unit, an engine developed by both PSA and Ford. Its no doubt a reasonable car which will get you to where you need to be. I can't see there being much fun in it and I can't se you wanting to rush out and drive it either. Sell that one and make a bit of money on it?

If your getting bored with the 107 or need the extra room, there are loads of decent cars around with good fuel economy. I'd suggest a 1.6HDi C5 if your after another, they are superb on fuel. My 2.0HDi 138 16v C5 has averaged a touch over 50MPG over the last 5500 miles.

The fusion is a decent enough car but boring. I only paid son in law £800 for it, has cost me 3 tyres, battery, road tax, and mot which comes to approx £400, so its owe me £1200. I was out in the 107 tonight, first time it's moved in a week and remembered why I thing it a far greater car than the sum of its parts, however we really do need a car that will take four, which ours will not do, cos I am 6' 1" and need the seat right back leaving very little room behind me. I think the plan is to sell the ford privately and double the money, then trade the pug in for something larger. I've just seen a c4 by loeb, in red, 2008 pre facelift, 1.6hdi 110, 68k on the clock for£5995. on e-bay at a garage 35 miles from me on the way to work which might need some investigation this week. Should be larger inside for seating and boot space even although its still a 3dr, would really prefer 5. I'll never have to crawl into the back!!!!!!!!!

The C4 sounds good, if a little on the expensive side. The 3 door is spacious enough for 4 people and has a very decent boot.

£1200 for the Fusion is not much at all, you are certain to double your money there.

Why not sell your 107 private, you will get far more for it and at a sensible price they sell like hot cakes.

Selling the 107 private would probably be better, I know there are no issues with it, nearly due a service which I would do and use the fusion as a stop gap until I fond the right car at the right price. I have not looked up values for the c4, but I am thinking it's price is a little ambitious for the age and mileage. Nice looking motor though.

That is why the price is high, as they asume a Loeb will be worth a lot more. Find a 2008 VTR with the same mileage and I bet its £1K less, if not more. Just make sure it has the best service history there is, Id not buy a 1.6HDi unless its had annual/10K intervals at the most.

I'd pay more for the Loeb Edition over a VTR+ (in fact, I did!) and owning one I don't think I could have any other model.

Although based on the VTR+ the interior is just so much nicer with the leather, suede and red stitching etc.

I can highly recommend the C4 By Loeb - had mine 9 months now... Where's that time gone...

Bit cheaper, but that's the sort of price a Diesel Loeb is going to be - the diesel's are dearer than petrol ones for some reason - I think in some ways I'd rather have the Petrol...

Might be worth keeping your eye out for a while - I spent 3 months searching for the "right" one, which typically was in West Lothian...!

Diesels are always worth more, they tend to be more desirable due to their lower running costs. Its always the way.

That is the thing with a 107, it does diesel economy for petrol car buying costs. Choose any other small petrol car (Corsa, fiesta etc) and all you will get is normal petrol car running costs. The next alternative is probably a diesel. Ive often considered a C1 as my daily hack about, as I do 70 miles a day, so low running costs are high on my priority list for a daily driver.

If you like the C4 but want low running costs, I would go with the 1.6HDi 90bhp. It gets £30 a year road tax and I think does without a FAP filter, though im not 100% sure on that.

That is the one which will get viewed sometime this week on the way to work. It's the colour scheme I like about it, the red and white suits it (more than the black) and I love the seats.

I have decided the Fusion is going, so if I go for something else the 107 will go too, but I still love it too. Don't think that particular car will be the one for me, doing 22000 miles a year would like to start with a lowerr mileage, but won't hurt to look. I think if the 107 goes A C5 will probably be the replacement, possibly a 1.6 design, think thats the one which has no dpf crap to go wrong.

Could keep the 107 and get an older big cit for when we need size, I see a really nice XM estate on e-bay for £1950

Seriously I would not buy your one Chris, an excellent car but it would be a disgrace for me to buy it to stay outside in NE scotland beside the sea for occasional use, that would kill it. We have already had the first big snowfall of the winter, 3" of the stuff last Friday.

I could always swap the wife's BINI for a c5 3 2.2hdi exclusive maybe just a year or so old, she can use it (only does 16 miles a day) Mind you I would then get murdered At least I could keep the Pug

I can see why you want to keep your 107, I would be very sad to see our C1 go, brilliant fun and very capable.

I can see the XM going quite soon hopefully, have had quite a bit of interest in it since putting it on ebay.

Your right, the 1.6HDi Design does not have a DPF. Well, according to the Citroen brochures, it does seem odd that they missed it off that model but put it on the more basic LX (which the Design is based one) and the higher spec VTR.

Keep the 107 and buy a 1.6HDi C5 for the occasional large car use, they are getting very cheap now.

The C4 was a nice car, no bad effects from it's mileage, dent on drivers and bald front tyres which would be rectified before sale, due service which would be done as well. It's not the way for me to go though, icannoy see the sense in trading a 09 reg with 47k which I know and is seriously cheap to run for an older car with more miles and more money. Hence the 107 stays for the time being anyway. Fusion is now advertised for sale. If I want a big occasional car to have alongside the 107 I can see it having a V6 engine and auto box and lots of toys. It can wait until after the new year though.

That is the right choice I think, there are few better commuter cars than the 107 trio. Dirt cheap to run, hold their value quite well and they are fun to drive. Very appealing in this day and age!

The Fusion has gone, doubled my money The next thing on the agenda is to persuade SHMBO to let me buy something else to "make some money off" for a few hundred pounds. Then there are 3 for sale at the mo that could interest me. One in glasgow, one in newcastle and another further away. Could try bribing her with a weekend shopping in either Braehead (glasgow) which she loves or in the metro centre where she desperately wants to try some shopping

As for the Metro Centre, I hate shopping but that is where I always go. Everything is under one roof, with some decent places to eat and the Imax cinema thrown in.

That could be one that would satisfy my craving for comfy cruiser. The one farther south used to live not too far from newcastle but now be far too far away for me. Just sounded her out, not a good response though
