paypal

Post by jgra1 »

chaps.. paypal is just odd these days..

I sold two heavy items to a chap in West London (boat engines as a project/spares - in July) the items were listed on ebay but he chose to buy them before the end of listing.
fair enough, he paid via paypal and I delivered them to him by hand..

Now in October, he is complaining that things are not quite what he wanted, so paypal have stepped in, held the original funds, with a view to paying them back to him.. unless I can prove proof of postage!

As it is, he has spent money on the items, modified them, so I cant have them back, and will lose all of the original price I got as well..

In this vien, if you sell a car to someone, they can claim its not right, months later, get their cash back and could already have sold the car on?
this seems, crazy..

any thoughts,
John

I would of thought as the items have been modified they cannot be returned in their original supplied condition so a refund should be null and void. I'm aware Paypal won't always see it that way unfortunately.

It would not happen in retail, lets say (completely stupid example) you went to the local stealer and purchased an engine mounting with the purpose of modifying it to fit something else, ie cut a bit off it, then later found out it would not do what you intended, you could not return it for a refund if you've chopped it about.

Not sure what to (sensibly) suggest, although you should point out to PP that the items were modified and therefore would be unable to return them as supplied.
Andy.

I'd make sure that there are no funds in Paypal and no cards or bank accounts linked

You can close your account immediately online................. then reopen it when the danger is past. From experience - Paypal works wonderfully well until something goes wrong. Then it's almost impossible to explain your point to them.

Surely if the person has accepted the items and has modified them that must be more than enough proof that they are what he wanted and expected at the time. Since its not an ebay sale I have no idea why paypal should even step in. If this is correct its a real negative on paypal. Surely a transaction between one person and another should be little more complicated than a bank transfer, there should be no come backs!
