V6 Effect...

Post by Northern_Mike »

Never before have I had yoofs in small "modified" cars watch in a "what's that?" manner when I pull into a petrol station. When two of them came over I was expecting to have to batter them, sorry, defend myself. However, I did them a disservice. They thought my car sounded "well sick man" and wanted to know what it was... I now know "sick" means cool, and feel sorry that the car mad yoofs of today will likely not own a car that sounds like mine as petrol will be too expensive and the laws will ban noise.

They went away happy after being shown round a Xantia V6, shown the leather and leccy seats, and listening to it rev a little. The language used to describe it was a little blue, in a style I can't repeat here, but it was all good comments.

That made my day :-)

Gooood man!!
have to say the Pug/Cit V6's of that era Doo have A Lovely sound to them, a lot less muted than current, Brothers 406 saloon has that Lovely rumble,
there was them thinking that they'd got their 1.0/1.2's sounding Mint innit, with big boxes and no silencing............

I don't know... Boys and their toys [-X

Yours sounds a bit fruitier than standard Mike due to the pattern back-box on it which appears to have a manufacturing fault in the form of a missing baffle

Yes, it is a little on the louder side. People at work or home could hear the car coming before they would see it

It needs that extra baffle removing :-) Maybe being a pattern unit, it will rot in no time, and I can replace it with a nice stainless one, with no baffles at all.

Yes, I know others would find it annoying.

I rode a bike for 6 years before cars. It wouldn't bother me a jot :-)

 That's a TKO; I was thinking more about a points victory. Even a Xantia 16V with no exhaust is obnoxiously loud.

I think from memory my Activa sounds rather nice, i say from memory because batting up and down the A31 each day for the last week in my derv Kia has left me stone def, at 70 you do start to wonder if the engine is actualy fitted into the ashtray rather than the engine bay.

Jims/Chris' Your V6 does have a nice rumble to it Mike, a very pleasing sound indeed, good to see your educating the youth anyway, its a great service your doing

I love driving my V6 as a daily driver but I notice there's a few problems
that need fixing on it. The speedo has a tendency to massively over read
as it gets into x3 figures in places where it's just not feasible to actually do
the speed indicated in such a short length of time. The fuel gauge always
seems very pessimistic too but to make sure I don't embarrassingly run out
I do keep filling up - it does seem a bit thirsty too...
