HARD FRONT SUSPENSION AGAIN.

Unread post by chrisjvm »

Evening all....
I've recently had the main accumulator sphere and the front Active ride sphere replaced by Pleiades to cure a ' hard' front suspension...
Drove back from Cambridgeshire and she positively floated along, parked up for a week and drove it at the w/end and the fronts gone hard again.
I don't think the new spheres have failed as when they were fitted, they cured the Activa 'shuffle' which hasn't returned.
Will it just be that the main front spheres now need replacing?

Regards
Chris

If it has suddenly gone hard and the front suspension height is correct, I would suspect it might be stuck in sports mode.

it sounds like it's stuck in hard mode at the front to me. Is it also jiggly at the back? I'd be tempted to do the famous diode mod on the car, but then that's just my opinion..

Hello Chris and Mike....
Jim checked the diodes and they were fine a week before I had the Spheres changed, he diagnosed the problem with the Active ride sphere and thought the Accumulator sphere might be shot as well... Martin at Pleiades confirmed this and changed them.
When he loosened the Active ride sphere it was pressurised and sprayed LHM everywhere, the diaphragm had gone and it was full of fluid.
I'm sure the ride is much harder than when I drove it back from Pleiades in sports mode.

I would check the diodes again, it sounds like an intermittent faults. If the car is stuck in sports mode it will be very firm, when you have the sports mode engaged it will cut in and out as needed, so the ride will be better than a full sports mode.

Easy to do an engine-off "bounce test" for the corners.

Pressure testing is cleverer again.

Thanks Jim,
I think the 2 'main' spheres might be shot as the
Suspension is hard on the front when the engine is off.
(Thanks addo)
