Re: Laguna 3 DCi Advice
Well thank you everyone for you advice
He managed to settle on the 1.9DCi and some hunting around found a decent one in the midlands for £995 on gumtree.
A quick call and the price was down to £800 with 6months tax stuck on too boot.
A quick trip down on saturday and the car came back with him and his mrs in it
Its not perfect but it drives really nice, needs a little clean inside, has some lacquer peel on one arch for some reason but no rust or major dings, light scratching on the grey scuff plate for the rear bumper to boot load area and the bonnet cable has snapped(but a new one was in bag provided with Renault all over the bag
. Best bit is it has LOADS of receipts, including in the last 3 years, Cambelt, water pump, turbo, clutch, DMF and services. After some totalling up he reckons about "7k has been spent since 2003 on its repairs!
The downsides are the bonnet cable, the satnav is strange(can it be updated for postcode entry??!!) rear tyres are scrubbed and need replacing by xmas(likely they were the front set and been swapped around!), and i think the steering wheel has been replaced at some point as the buttons for the cruise control are on the steering column... the big one is that sometimes the warning of Fuel Injection Fault comes up on the dash. Im guessing it needs an OBD code reader to have a look or does it need the Renault CLIP tool to make sense of it??
The glowplugs seem fine as it kicks over from cold just fine, and the power is good for such an old diesel, no flat spots or big turbo spike in it so im guessing a failing sensor or dirty one
Maybe have to visit paris autos if they do any renault stuff

Re: Laguna 3 DCi Advice
Glad to hear it KP, it was always going to be a Laguna
Sounds like an Initiale? Unfortunately the sat nav is pre historic and barely worth using, no post code entry is available
When the woman says "fuel infection system faulty, consult your Renault dealer", is it being given the beans in the outside lane of the motorway, and does it go into limp home mode?
Can't beat a car with a nice wod of paperwork to wade through... Sounds like its been cherished!
PICS PLEASE!

Re: Laguna 3 DCi Advice
I'll get him to take some asap
Its half leather and has sport on it as well for some reason and does seem to be a bit lower and firmer than i would think, half leather as well!
Trying to convince him to get the read leather on ebay(is it easy enough to plumb in the electrics for them though and maybe the new wheel with proper Cruise Control buttons??)
The light comes up with no beans and doesnt go into limp home mode, drives perfectly fine for him apparently other than the warning
He has already found the button to turn the woman off(if only all women came with that feature!)
Its green as well! Are the CC controls meant to be on the wheel or a proper stalk?
Yeah i think he has hankered after one for a while so i may give him an xmas treat and speak to vince and get it spruced up outside for him and a repaint of the rear bumper lip or a chrome cheap one to make it look nice as the grey will scratch with the dogs going in and out of it...
Did Renault ever make a proper load mat and dog guard for it at all and if so wheres best to get them??

Re: Laguna 3 DCi Advice
Then to be honest, I wouldn't worry about the fuel injection warning. It's more than likely a rogue sensor somewhere, if it doesn't affect the driving, shut the woman up and just enjoy the rest of the car!
Yep, cruise is meant to be on the wheel.... it sounds as if the car didn't have it as standard, but someone has retro fitted it without the expense of a new steering wheel (the wiring is already there, I've seen plenty of people tap into it with a column stalk on Mégane IIs)
I looked into fitting full leather on my Dynamique V6 - the wiring wasn't there on my car, so I doubt it'll be on yours. Worth a look though.
The big heavy rubber boot mat and dog guard were Renault "Boutique" options. Rare, but keep an eye on the likes of Gumtree and eBay. Also worth popping into your dealer and asking, it's the type of thing they could have out the back gathering dust since the Laguna II was launched and want rid.

Re: Laguna 3 DCi Advice
Cheers Luke will give it a try then
The keyacard thing seems to be promising as there is someone in bradford offering a new card service for £95 but you have to go to them
bit poop but still way cheaper than renault prices..
May get the wheel and try to plumb it in properly

Re: Laguna 3 DCi Advice
It's the only one and falling to bits
I've come across another not far from me for £350 with a blown turbo and possibly engine damage. It's much newer though and lower mileage so in tempted to get it myself and fix it as the owner has said everything else works... Engineer be salvageable if he hasn't let run too long while eating its own engine oil for fuel...
Will try and get a look at it this week and see if it's worth a punt as a turbo replacement on most engines is a diddle for me now

Re: Laguna 3 DCi Advice
Good news with your brothers new car
With all that history and being a top spec and with road tax, it sounds like a real bargain. I hope the 1.9DCi proves reliable, im sure he will keep on top of repairs so it should last.
Im not sure of Lukes experiences but a lot of Renaults did have problems with the rear tyres wearing on the outsides as the rear toes in.
The 1.9DCI engine does drive very nicely, it pulls well and provides great MPG, so long as it stays reliable it should make a good car.

PS numberplate is good when you can see it through the smoke(not the normal laguna stuff, the clearing of years of gentle driving!)

Re: Laguna 3 DCi Advice
A 1.9 dCi Privilege Sport Tourer with optional sat nav in THE BEST Laguna II colour. Looks great
Ah this brings back fond memories of my first ever Laguna II

Get that velour scrubbed and it'll come up beautifully. Cruise has definitely been retrofitted by tapping into the wiring. Is the tyre pressure monitoring active?
Chris - yes, the Mégane II, Laguna II and Vel Satis are all generally pretty hard on tyres.
