xantia mk 1 dashboard lights.

Unread post by aerodynamica »

How do you access the set behind the speedometer and rev counter? Pleeeeease don't say "remove the dashboard"!

What type of bulbs will they be?

Same for the heater lights - what bulb types are these.

Thank you in advance!

The dash bulbs are the the little ones mounted in black plastic holders. I have a collection of used ones I've liberated from secondhand dashboards.

I think the heater ones are the same type although there could be a set of two which are one unit. I changed mine last year although my memory has faded.

No, they are standard capless bulbs, they pull out of the holders (unlike the bulbs in the heater controls).

You don't need to remove the whole dashboard, just the steering wheel, column shroud and the instrument cluster (there are 2 screws behind the column shroud and one above the instruments).
Heat and time have usually glued the instrument cluster to the top of the dash, so some careful persuasion is needed before it will pull out.

Thanks folks - so it's the little 3w press-in type? The CX uses the capless press - in type for the warning lights and each is fixed in a black plastic 'cap' first and then together, both are fitted to the fixing.

CAution needs to be exercised when removing the airbag unit to prevent it going off in your face! READ your Haynes BoL before simply trying to disconnect this unit.

My Xantia Mk I had bulbs soldered into their caps.
They’re all 1.2 Watts and it’s best to get the ones with the shortest glass so as to fit the heater also.

you dont need to remove the wheel in my experience just undo shroud the switches to the right ( i think i remember there being a screw there) and the dash piece with switches in it there is a screw either side of the wheel shroud and 2 screws above the radio hidden by the radio shroud( from memory), all 1.2 watt from memory

On a series 1 you need to remove the wheel to remove the column shroud. On a series 2 you don't. As said above my series 1 dash (and the two I got from the breakers) all have soldered in bulbs in the black plastic fittings.

Just a quick question along these lines to the people with mark 1's, do you have a light that comes on for just side lights on? :?:
or just main beam and full beam?

Yes you should have three. I guess a bulb has gone. When I got my Xantia several lights didn't work due to blown bulbs.
