That would happen!

Unread post by Peter.N. »

Going up to Yorkshire for a few days on Tuesday, took the dustbins down to the farm tonight and put a stone through the sump of the C5, so unless I can do a quick repair tomorrow it will be the 406 that we travel in. Does anyone know if the 2.0 and 2.2 Hdi sumps are the same, only there seem to be more 2.0 ones about. I will have a look in the morning and see if there is any possibility of repair, but I had lost all the oil by the time I got back so I doubt it.

Lots of different sumps listed depending on spec. i.e. air con or not etc. so I guess you need to specify the exact one

I'vee used "chemical metal" as a temp fix on a metal water pipe, which actually was still there 2 years down the road when I sold the car.
It will get you out of a situation.

Thanks but I don't think that would help a lot in the circumstances, I looked at it this morning and there is about a 6" section of the sump missing. I found a replacement on ebay at an extortionate price but it seem to be the only one in the country! So am awaiting delivery.

Must have been 1 big mother of a stone to take out a 6 inch strip out of the sump Peter.
Are they steel or alloy sumps on them.

Just as well Kev.

I didn't find the stone or the corner of the sump that's missing, we have a concrete track as far as the bottom gate then there is an unmade area which is full of flints as the whole area is, there is a bit of a drop where you come off the concrete at the bottom, I think I must have come off it a bit to enthusiastically

Replacement sump was here when I arrived home this evening so will see what happens when I fit it, it didn't complain about being driven with no oil pressure - or oil for that matter but I did take it very gently. I did once drive a car back from London with no OP, it did have oil in the sump though!
