My ABS sensor has lit up, Ive checked the resistance at the ABS ECU connector wih a multimeter, 3 are reading about 1880, but the FNS no reading at all, I guess the FNS is shot and I need to replace, but the forum indicates that the reading should be 1080, do I need to consider replacing any of the other sensors as well?
Thanks for any assistance
Paul

Re: Mk1 Xantia ABS Sensor
Measuring at the ECU could be accuring an extra resistance say at the sensor connector. You may well find that if you checked the resistance at the connector the others will be 1080 ohm.. Plug connectors are located on the subframe legs leading down from where the sensor cable goes at the front, and the rears are on TOP of the subframe at each side, hidden out the way.
Id be inclined to fit a 1080ohm sensor, and you should be ok.
Other opinions may come in as to why the others are higher.

Re: Mk1 Xantia ABS Sensor
If this is a very early sinker Xantia then there was something different about the ABS. I know the ECU was unique to them so perhaps the sensors too...

Re: Mk1 Xantia ABS Sensor
i would be tempted to check the n/s sensor plug and disregard the higher resistance on the others, so long as they are all the same i doubt all 3 have an equal higher resistance caused by failure, have you checked your meter leads to make sure they have no resistance in them?
Mine just had the f/n/s sensor go, when i cleaned the connector up the abs has started working again.

Re: Mk1 Xantia ABS Sensor
Have you any idea how expensive sensors are?
Before you lash out on one (let alone on 4) new sensor I suggest you check the connector on the suspension and then wiring to the sensor very carefully. In my limited experience, it's usually a dirty/loose connector (or broken wire) rather than the sensor failed. I've even come across a new sensor (with wrong connector) with a bodged connection that had 'failed' because the bodge had failed (and I wouldn't mind betting that there hadn't been anything wrong with the original sensor - other than a bad connector connection).
As for the other three all giving a reading around 1880 ohms, I'd assume that there's nothing wrong with them.
