Does pressing and holding button to close for around ten secs help? ThatS how you reset the anti pinch on the windows

Do sunroofs still come with a manual override facility? As I recall there would be a way of turning the motor by hand, usually with a removable cover over the bit you need to turn.

Some silicon lubricant might help matters too.

The sunroof is operated by a dial. So i cant hold the button in. It almost closes then decides to open. Maybe it thinks its jamming. I left the battery disconnected over night but no luck

I have fixed my car. I pulled down the roof console and popped out the switch that controls the sunroof, its a round dial type. I noticed it was moving when in the closed position at its own will must have been a loose connection. i played with it and put it and back and now works so just a dodgy switch i think.
if any one else has this problem hope it helps

Sorry for digging up an old topic, but actually the dial can be pressed and held to make the sunroof move.
I found it out by accident when my sunroof got stuck. My Finnish handbook had no mention of sunroof since it wasn't available here, so i had to learn by trial and error. There wasn't even a mention of the fuse.

I managed to get the sunroof moving when pressing the dial, but only when it was in an extreme position. Pressing when it was in the closed position had no effect.
The sunroof moved towards the selected extreme position as long as i pressed the dial, and after i forced it to both ends, it sprung back to life.

If anyone could verify this procedure from an owners manual, i'd be thankful. Info of the fuse would be nice too.

My '03 2.2 HDi is imported from Germany, and when i bought it (already in Finland) the sunroof didn't work. There was a mention in the Finnish registration papers that the "opening sunroof is not allowed with side airbags" or something like that. Luckily the only thing done to disable the sunroof was that the connector of the dial was disconected :)

Hi. The sunroof dial works on a star shaped washer held against the circuit board by a spring. Over time the spring loses tension and the star shaped metal loses proper contact. Solution is to either replace the switch or take it apart and stretch the spring. Also rebounding the star shaped metal contact will help.
Hope that helps

Oops meant to say re bending the star shaped metal. Predictive text! The star shaped metal should be curved but this also goes flat over the years. Very easy to bend with fingers back into the correct shape

The sunroof switch on my C3 seems to work or not depending on which side you press and how hard (and perhaps on the phase of the moon). I have got the switch dangling on its wire from the roof, but I can't see how to dismantle it - I'm looking to check the spring as mentioned above. Are there any tricks to opening the switch up ?

Thanks, Greg.

Hi Greg

I've had a good look, and as expected, they don't detail any modular components internally, as these are deemed to be replacement units as expected.
I can tell you that the part is still available from Citroen, should you not have any luck and is Part No: 6554 Q3. Number 7 in the diagram below, in the UK it is priced at £46.69 ex. VAT (20%) or £56.03 (inc. VAT) as a guide.
C3 Sunroof Parts.png
I'll replicate the re-initialisation procedure here in case you haven't tried this first:
Initialisation should be followed in the following cases:
  • Position zero "0" of the rotary button does not correspond to position zero of the reduction motor (roof closed position)
  • The sunroof does not open using the rotary button
  • The sunroof does not close, because of the anti-pinch
First, Place the rotary button on position zero "0" and wait for the sunroof to fully close or stop.

1st case: The sunroof moves rearwards (anti-pinch)
Perform the following operations:
  • Wait 5 seconds, after it has stopped moving rearwards
  • Press on the rotary button until the sunroof closes
  • Maintain pressure on the rotary button for 2 to 3 seconds
  • Release the rotary button
2nd case : The sunroof stops (open position)
Perform the following operations :
  • Press on the rotary button until the sunroof closes (to trigger the reduction motor relay)
  • Maintain pressure on the rotary button for 2 to 3 seconds
  • Release the rotary button
Reinitialisation
  • Perform the following operations :
  • Place the rotary button in the maximum open position
  • Press on the rotary button until the sunroof reaches the maximum open position
  • Maintain pressure on the rotary button for 2 to 3 seconds
  • Release the rotary button
  • Without pressing it, place the rotary button directly on position zero "0" (if the sunroof moves, recommence the re-initialisation procedure)
  • Press on the rotary button until the sunroof closes (the movement takes place after 1 second)
  • Maintain pressure on the rotary button for 2 to 3 seconds
  • Release the rotary button
So try and reinitialise it first, then you can try Bandit's repair, or finally replace the switch.

Thanks GiveMeABreak, a very comprehensive reply.
I still couldn't open the switch, so I gave it a squirt of WD-40 and re-installed it. And now it works. It does look like a flaky connection inside the switch.

would it be possible Mr. Bandit to elaborate in more details how to dismantle the switch, I've had a look on and gave it a try but it seems a bit complex. Thanks in advance.
