Unread post by jacksun1987 »

Im going to be towing a trailer with some stuff for the tip. But my licence is from 2008. Not before 1997.
What happerns if i getpulled over or somthing daft like that.
I drove the traillor with the xantia round the block. Today but its my first time of towing on a propper road tomo
It felt al right i didnt evern notice it on the xantia.

Think you'll be alright:

If you passed your car test after 1st January 1997

Car drivers who passed their driving test after 1st January 1997 are subject to greater restrictions on towing.

You can tow a vehicle and trailer combination weighing up to 3.5 tonnes, provided that the unladen weight of the towing vehicle is greater than the maximum permissible weight of the trailer.

You can also tow a trailer with a gross weight of 750kg behind any category B vehicle – giving a maximum permissible weight of 4.25 tonnes (max weight for category B is 3.5 tonnes).

In practice, these new rules are not too restrictive for most drivers, but there are a few surprising exceptions.

For example, large 4×4 pickups (like the Nissan Navara and Toyota Hilux) often have gross weights over 2.5 tonnes. This means that when coupled with a medium-sized caravan or other trailer (weighing >1 tonne), the combined gross weight would be likely to exceed 3.5 tonnes, which would be illegal.

You will be fine with a smal trailer to take to the tip. As Richard has posted, that is the law, a combined weight of 3.5 tonnes, you will be under that!

I have worked out that our 2002 C5 with a lightweight horsebox and one horse is just within the limit of my licence. Hopefully anyway!

Neigh, lad, you don't want to get saddled with that...

Anyway, make the horse walk and ride it at the same time. Saves petrol

How many oats to the mile does the horse do Chris? I hear their emissions are good for the roses....

I'd put helium in the float's tyres, for a little extra weight advantage.

Well, I guess he could well be taking a few tonnes of driveway down to the tip

Horses are better confied in boxes in my opinion, they are more predictable that way!

This particular horse can pull a carrige, I might have to press her into being my daily transport, that would reduce my shares in Shell!
