Pauls S1 V6 24v PRV Manual

We mostly know Ive a 24v V6 Manual XM which I got for very little at the right time..

Here when I first had her about 5 years ago..





Anyway, since then Ive had a few things to do... Firstly, she developed a crunch in 3rd gear.. I aquired a spare manual box attached to the original PRV 24v engine, and after a bit of digging and posting on XM fourm the Owner previous to the last keep appeared and informed me the original box was fine..

So it was engine out in general to swap box's..











And after gearbox removal...



Reassembled and stuck it all back together after a quick engine bay tidy up underseal'd the PAS feed pipes..

The next issues were cill rot about a year later.... so out with the welder..





I actually over did it, that sheet patch is twice the thickness of the original metal, it was bloody hard to shape in too!!

Its still solid now thank god... Both sides...

So that was it, she then sat a year, then last year I dragged her out and put her in for mot.

I was advised on the MOT of slight corrosion to the rear subframe and also corrosion to the front seatbelt area in the floor... but I was issued an MOT..

The advisories went out of my mind foolishly... because as I looked at the old MOT to remind me of the advisoires and then checked the areas I was a bit down'd a little....

So the latest work entailed the following repairs:

Offside Rear mount area:






Nearside Rear Mount Area:




So, after a fair few days of cutting shaping, welding, cutting etc etc... the Near side ended up like this:







And the Off side, which I also had t rebuild the side panel part, ended up like this:









All sorted, in the mean time the subframe mounts them selfs also looked a bit iff, so while they did look like this:





I got them cleaned up and also under sealed...





All looking very well solid and nice now its all back together and the exhaust fitted...

I now have one more hole to contend to in the floor just inside the inner sill... which is the next job.

Other jobs Ive had done before the rear end welding...







Rocker cover all cleaned up ready to fit, Ive also had the engine "Cover" repaird and painted, and the red HT leads cleaned up and re fitted..






Yes, I know, Ive not fitted the rocker cover yet! I dont want it to suffer engine heat to much so to bilter before I come to CXM...

Im sure it must really help being able to do the welding yourself, I wouldn't know where to start with that kind of thing!

Looking forward to seeing it in its running glory at CXM

Paul, I'm delighted to see this blog and delighted to see another very rare XM coming back to life Brilliant!

I'm not keen on bodywork either. Give me spanners any day...

That's one thing I've never done. Welded a car. I'm sure my time will come.

Paul, I must say you've done a lovely job of it on the 24V. Chris and I very carefully checked his and all seems as sound as a pound in the rear subframe mounts.

By rights we should see both yours and Chris's XM at CXM. The two versions of the V6 24V XM. How lovely... That'll make the show

We're also planning to have a pair of S1 V6 Xantias at CXM too, just for balance you understand

Thanks Jim.. were on track now for CXM.. I could be done for ICCR, but cannot afford the Tax and Test in time. Hopefully when Luke takes the Xantia Ill be able to Tax the XM then.. Shes already running Classic insurance so thats sorted. Just MOT and Tax... and fuel of course!

If youve seen this car in the flesh as i did when i came over to yours, you can truly appreciate the amount of work required to get it on the road and ready for the cxm

It would be good to see them both reunited ahgain

Shame I couldn't take you out Vince... shes on all fours now with exhaust on so drivable now.

No matter, CXM will do...

Fantastic work , I could read threads like this all day long . You've certatinly put a massive amount of work in Paul .

Great work Paul and looking forward to seeing it at the CX, XM and Xantia Rally.

It's great when a large'ish project like this comes together. I'm in the middle of a similar project in terms of scale of work (maybe a touch more) and I can't wait for it to be done...

I'd love to get some pics of the S1 V6 and S2 V6 together - what a picture!

There'll be another Series 1 Xantia V6 there Jim - Jason in Roger's old car...

I had the pleasure of being a passenger in this 24v a few years back, wow isn't a word for it It's such a naughty sounding engine

Didn't Xac give the hydraulic pump a name? Kevin the something? A children's TV character?

I've got a lot of respect for you one man fixer uppers.
