Re: XANTIA HDI problem
If you are sure the lift pump is good and delivering fuel at the correct rate then there's something telling the ECU a start is not permissible. It could be one of the pressure sensors or the cam sensor for instance.
Because there are a few sensors to choose from, the best way is to have a quick diagnostic session with a Lexia. That should tell you the cause. Otherwise it can be a painful poke and hope session to find the cause...
In the SuperSticky area of this forum you can see a list of members who have a Lexia. One nearby may be content to run a diagnostic for you in exchange for refreshments
There is no stop solenoid in the accepted sense on an HDi.
Check all sensors have their electrical plugs firmly attached.
Another reason for a non-start can be a failure of the engine immobiliser. Is the immobiliser light on the dash going out correctly? It should just briefly flash as you turn on the ignition...

Re: XANTIA HDI problem
Hi JIM thanks.
tryed it this morning not firing to start with then fired.
left it running for 30 mins drove home. 30 mins later would
not fire. used a bit of easy start and fired tuck it for 40 mile run
put sum diesel in it would not start without the easy start.
have it at home just started it ticks over but will not pick up
when accelerator pressed. any ideas HDIs are new territory for me.
thanks

Re: XANTIA HDI problem
Hi,
I have got a S reg Xantia 2.0l HDi 110bhp. Is yours the 90bhp or 110bhp? If you have got problems starting it then make sure you have a fat battery. I got a 70 amp hour battery brand new for about £50.00, and it gives it a good boost on startup and fires perfectly every time now. If it is not picking up when you press the accelerator then you have got a problem. It sounds to me like a fuel problem. Either a blockage in the fuel line or the wrong type of fuel. Have you put biodiesel or red in it?
Steve

I would very much concur.stevestix8 wrote:It sounds to me like a fuel problem. Either a blockage in the fuel line or the wrong type of fuel. Have you put biodiesel or red in it?
Go easy on the easystart. Too much use can do severe damage.

Excellent
Very pleased all is now sorted...
Yes, the only reader that really works in any satisfactory way is a Lexia 3. Clones can be got very reasonably on the 'bay and do what they say on the tin...
There's a long sticky thread on them at the top of this forum that's worth a read...

For that very reason, in one workshop I spend time at, the local equivalent (Start ya bastard) it's now known as "Seize, ya c**t"...CitroJim wrote:Go easy on the easystart. Too much use can do severe damage.
