C5 Steering pipe leak

Unread post by ddpcitroen »

I have Citroen C5 2006 1.6 Diesal Estate.

At Citroen service center, they updated me about leak in Steering pipe which can impact on the power steering, suspension and breaks. If anyone have similar problem how much it cost to replace the Steering pipe?

Thx

:welc:
The power steering pipe leak is not uncommon.
I couldn't say how much it would be to replace. IIRC the pipe itself costs around £50-60 plus fitting.

I would try and find a recommended independent workshop to do the work as the dealer is talking nonsense about the brakes, which are not linked to the suspension and steering as it was with the Xantia, XM etc.

Whereabouts are you. Someone may be able to point you in the direction of a reliable Citroen specialist.

There are some recommendations in this forum.
BL Autos and Pleiades enjoy consistent praise from forum members.

Incidentally, be sure it actually is leaking. I had an advisory on mine a few years back and it was just a spillage creeping down the hose and forming drops at the lower curve. Wiping it off fixed it :)

Hi DD,
The passenger side steering pipe on my Oct 2007 2.0 L Hdi (136) was damaged when the tray under the engine tried to go AWOL last April (2011). There was a slow drip of fluid and we lost count of the wrong number of pipes that were delivered – it took about 10 weeks to get the correct parts.

The pipe was £72.00 and labour £58.50 plus the usual 20% contribution.
I suspect that the 1.6 will be similar.

Hope that helps.
Andy.
If it can happen it will.

Thanks guys for the reply. It was really useful.

Well I am BL Autos customer and I have booked for next week with them. Dealers were telling me astronomical price for the same job.

Good to hear. See, an unscrupulous garage would have taken anywhere up to a couple of hundred quid for absolutely no reason.
Trustworthy garages are worth their weight in gold.
They know you will go back to them when there is a problem safe in the knowledge that it will be fixed properly and at the right price.

hiya,
was it high pressure pipe (from pump to rack) or low pressure (return)?
my 2001 is leaking from HP pipe im told it's a major both in part cost and labour - i guess it's not so different from suspension HP pipes>
