New to c5 & clutch

Unread post by imperial21 »

Hi Everyone
I have just bought a bit doggy but ok C5 estate !

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170875071009? ... 1423.l2649" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I gave £650 for the car which i think is ok ? ( I hope) The car drives very well & everything seems to work, I have to say much smoother than my old Xantia,
My only concerns are when i tested the cat The engine light was on but went away once i put fuel in it ? it was very low, but drove fine so hopefully thats fine.
It has the air bag light on ? is that the same as Xantia plugs under the seats ?
Main bady the clutch bites very high, I would say worn out :( Does anyone know how bad they are to do ? I just checked ebay for a clutch kit and its £93 all in and its a LUK clutch, Thats cheaper than an xantia oone for the same engine !

Any help and thoughts gratefully accepted.
1999 Xantia exclusive 110BHP !! Now RIP !!
2002 C5 estate 110 hdi, Happily sold on !!!

When I had the clutch/dmf replaced I paid around £400 , the dmf was replaced for a solid flywheel

The airbag is probably the connections under the passenger side footwell. If you peal back the carpet from the front of the car, there is a foam block, the connections are under there. Give them a cleaning with come electrical contact cleaner and a bit of working in and out, it should cure it.

The clutch, if its not slipping then I would live with it for a while. If it is then you might want to consider putting in a new dual mass flywheel too. Its an expensive thing but should it fail after the clutch has been replaced, it will be the same job again. You can replace the 2.0HDi 110 8vs with a solid flywheel with no resulting problems. Our 2.0HDi 110 C5 has had a solid flywheel for 82K miles, its original DMF lasted only 60K.

Saying that, we had a C5 2.0HDi estate which needed a new clutch as it was very worn. A Citroen specialist replaced the clutch and left the flywheel, as that was fine, at 105K.

I had thought of having a look at that one myself as its not to far away but I really want an SX with dual zone heating as I am always cold and end up cooking the wife.

As citroenmad says if the clutch is not actually slipping I wouldn't worry about it. My 406 Hdi had a very high pedal when I bought it and still has after nearly 20,000 miles, just don't slip it more than you can help, there is enough torque to pull away without revving it.

When I bought my 2.2 from Exeter it ran out of fuel as soon as I got on the motorway, the AA man said "Did you buy this on ebay?" ...... we get a lot of these.
