oil in expantion water tank needs clean out

hi all i have a problem well my mate does there is oil in the expantion water tank of his people carier (06 reg diesel turbo) and now it seems to have clogged his radiator just wondering if there is any cemicals or cleaning agents that you can put through to clean it out. dont know were the oil is comming from but we think his wife has put oil in the expantion water tank by mistake insted of the engine oil filler you know the one its bright yellow and got a picture of a oil can on it.. dont think its the head as there is no contamination on the dip stick and it runs, idles and starts like a new car and no black or white smoke out of the exhaust.....yes this is very confusing so if there is anyone who has any ideas please let me know.. hopefully we can fix his car and his marrage ha ha..

I'd be inclined to use Forte Cooling System Flush after flushing a few times with plain water.



Some advocate washing powder but I would be rather wary of that in case any residue is left that could cause foaming or damage the water pump seals.

If you have difficulty obtaining Forte products, PM Chris (citroenmad) as he knows someone who may be able to organise some for you.

cheers mate do you just put it in after flushing a few times and then flush it out again

Run the engine with it in for a short while, applies to all the flushes. Heating the coolant helps to remove the oil and any other contaminants in there.

leaky oil cooler can cause this problem,

before flushing the coolant system disconnect the cooler hose's and join them together,
then as long as your only running round town and not causing the engine to get to hot, you could run about with it like this after flushing just to make sure,
