ok this might be a it of dumbass question but here it is anyway.
so, i'm told that c5 lowers its ride height by 10 odd mm above 110kph, and raises back at 90kph.
so in theory if i drive up to 110kph and slow down to just above 90kph on motorway cruise (obviously on the slower lane), i should be able to get the best fuel economy, correct?
has anyone looked into doing this at all?
v6 is very thirsty as everyone knows and im thinking of ways to cut down on fuel cost.
cheers
sam

Re: C5 ride height at motorway speed
If you have the sport button them the ride height does lower at motorway speed.
If you want to save fuel get a diesel, simple's. I would love a 3.0 v6 but could never afford to run one, get about 42mpg mixed driving from mine.

Re: C5 ride height at motorway speed
Park it at and buy a diesel as everbody else is saying..... Irrespective of model the suspension does indeed lower at speed presenting the optimimum face at ?km/hr. Pretty sure it is in the manual (available as pdf on internet if you do not have one). I have noticed the changed behaviour and attitude many times, and it works well in terms of handling. As to whether it makes a huge difference in economy, I am too busy gritting my teeth as I pass the Audi 8s through the long sweeping bends to really give a damn, or to notice...sonoramicommando wrote: v6 is very thirsty as everyone knows and im thinking of ways to cut down on fuel cost.

Re: C5 ride height at motorway speed
A 2.2 Hdi with a tuning box goes very well and still gives 40+ mpg driven sensibly, the 2.0 will give nearly 60 mpg.

only if i can afford to "park" it and buy a diesel...
knowing what i know now, i doubt i'd buy v6 again - the performance doesn't justify its terrible fuel economy, even if having all the options is good.

Re: C5 ride height at motorway speed
i do have a sport button but hardly ever use it - i think it doesn't make enough difference to bother with it.
i'll have to hook up lexia and see exactly when it kicks in and see if i can feel the difference (doubt it)

Re: C5 ride height at motorway speed
The suspension will go into sport mode on its own based on your driving. The sport button will make it go earlier and stay in sport mode longer.
On my 02 C5 with sport button the steering used to feel more direct when on. But it could be m imagination, but I did miss it it when I had a C5 without.
If I get my current C5 back from the garage (only had it two weeks or so) it has the sport button to experiment with again.

Re: C5 ride height at motorway speed
All C5s from LX to Exclusive SE have the self lowering/raising function as standard, its not part of the sport package.waynedance wrote:If you have the sport button them the ride height does lower at motorway speed.
The front raises by slightly more than the rear, to give a more wedge shape through the air. I forget what the exact mms are now. I dont suppose its noticeable, I dont notice it but it feels a stable car on the motorway, even at over 100mph, so im told!
You also notice them raise on a bad road, we have a good few speed bumps around here and mine raises up after going over a couple in sequence.
You can actually set the car to sit lower at all times, which will improve fuel economy very slightly too. You need it on a Lexia to do this though and dropping it too much effects the ride. Mine is dropped by about half an inch back and front, looks 'normal' now instead of too high.

Re: C5 ride height at motorway speed
is it pretty straightforward to make the change? it'd be good if i can alter two middle settings (assuming lowest and highest cannot be set physically any further) - keep one for motorway speed and another for 50kph.Citroenmad wrote:waynedance wrote:...You can actually set the car to sit lower at all times, which will improve fuel economy very slightly too.
