RAT look???
What is everyones opinions on the rat loud popular with the vw crowd think since my car is worth scrap all due to the fact it has 207,000 miles even being a diesel its still seen as not worth anything. The body work is a bit rough already so wouldn't be too hard lol. Just wondering what the feeling about it would be? Has anyone done it before and can show pics or give advice on how best to go about it. This may be one of those I'm bored at work so this has some how got in to my mind and will be gone nby the morning who knows

Re: RAT look???
Ive not seen a 'rat' look C5 before, there was a Xantia on here not that long ago though, its been scrapped now I think.
Its popular in the VW scene to buy a cheap, pattern part bonnet and lightly sand it, over a few days it goes very rusty ... another thing which seems popular is matt black paint.
The rat look is easily and very cheaply achieved, depends if you can live with the results and if your planning on having the car for the rest of its life or not

Re: RAT look???
Not impressed at all by the rat 'look' - what's good about it?
Actually, around these parts, EVERY single bleeding 6 cars is a damned ugly VW Transporter
with bling wheels, paint job and side sill steps. I truly hate them now as they're so boring and
sickeningly predictable in their profusion. Not one of them is a rat look. Everywhere I drive I
count one about a minute apart and they seem to be taking over and are certainly more
common than a Ford Ka or Fiesta. Rant over but suffice to say I detest them.

Re: RAT look???
It's not for me the "Rat Look" , I prefer to keep my cars gleaming when possible . The C5 would look pretty stealth in matt black though ! Get some blackboard paint , rollers and masking tape it will look mean with black wheels too

Re: RAT look???
I have done the mint car and its a pain as an everyday car but with this one is being run like a builders van and will prob be driven into the scrap yard when I am done with her the thought if spending enough to sort out all the scratches and paint chips she already wears wouldn't be worth the hassle. I have thought about vinal wrapping but its too much work and the surface would need a lot of prep to get a good finish. The idea of black board paint hmmmm now this s an idea
Just like the idea of being able to park up and drop her on her arse but having a decent ride the rest of the time so having a different look that will go with this but without spending a fortune. Just want something different and looking ideas I may be mad

Re: RAT look???
I love the rat look
That's why I have a car called Rattiva II
There is something very appealing in a car that looks to have been round the block a good few times and wears its battle scars and patina with pride but underneath is very sound and generally in top nick. That’s my Rattiva...
I'm not so sure about the artificially distressed look though. In Rattiva's case it's all natural and the result of over 200K on the clock.

Re: RAT look???
Love the idea of matte black but after a little research its a huge amount of work and time (something I don't have) to diy and its still hit or miss on a good finish diff people say rollers or rattle cans both have down points
Think I have wised up to the rat look well I dont fancy a rusted car more different main prob is that the bumper has a lot of scuffs at the corners so now thinking remove these and repaint but in a different colour and do the door strips as well, dono what colour though and spray the standard alloys black
Just cant decide on what I want to do with this car

Re: RAT look???
IMHO black wheels don't work - most cars are designed around the wheels so when you 'lose'
them visually in black the whole thing looks lost and unbalanced. If anything, making a real
effort with the wheels by putting bigger diamaeter/lower (bone breaking) profile will make
any car look more dramatically different than practically anything else you do bar a colour
change - what colour is the car as this could influence what you do with it?

Re: RAT look???
here she is at the min
http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/29 ... 1608OfbVaf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
may not go totally black but stick to dark grey colour on the wheels. If I can figure out how to remove the grill it will be de-chromed and painted black with dark wheels should end up with a bit of a stealth look. Someone has hit the rear bumper and scratched up the corner trim up nicely and very kindly fecked off so want to tidy this hence the colour change to all the bump strips as its easier than trying to colour match with rattle cans unless someone can point me in the direction of a good supplier for the paint might even colour code the grill hmmmmm

Re: RAT look???
most the current 'dubbers' choose the paint stripper look for One panel, typically the bonnet or a wing, then atleast one other panel is 'Sticker bombed' , occasionally the front bumper, or rear wing,
my cousin and her chap had a Proper Rat look Split screen Vw van, was a '56 van, Loved it, theyve now got a slightly newer Immaculate show Barndoor splitty van,
the old one

the newer one!

the van guys have been doing it for years, but started over in america Donkeys back when gys would sort the cars out leaving the paint till last, like most peeps do, but they'd run around until they could afford the paint,
i love the matt idea, Matt orange is a cracking colour to use, most the guys use the vinyl wrap to do it, but, its not quite as simple to keep it looking good, need to be careful on what shampoo's you use as too waxy a one will add a level of shine to your matt!!
a matt Xantia would looki pretty sweet though!! suits the angles nicely i recon!!
