trapped Budgie
Ive just replaced front discs and pads on my XM. Straightforward job!
However, while I was having a cup of coffee, a budgie has nested under the offside wheel arch! This is most annoying, there are plenty of other cars to choose, why mine?
Even more puzzling is it seems to cheep exactly in sync with the speed the wheel is turning, even more astonishing is when I put my foot on the break pedal the bird stops chirping! I hope I'm not hurting him!

Re: trapped Budgie
I havent finished!
I quite like Buggies, and I don't want to incur the wrath of the NSPB.
So, does anyone know how to remove it humanly?
Dave.

Re: trapped Budgie
Sorry, couldn't resist! Maybe it all needs to bed in now.
When the pads were slotted into the calliper housing did they fit in easily without corrosion on the sides fouling
them as this sometimes hinders easy movement of the piston and pads. The only other thing I can think of would be
traces of remaining oil/protection storage film on the discs causing heat as the pads are applied onto them.

No, I got em on Higher perches!
I cleaned discs in cellulose thinners, But, the little spring that fits behind the locating pin went into lower earth orbit! Ill take it all off again and copper grease it when the weather gets better. (about September)
Cheers, Dave.

Re: trapped Budgie
I thought you may have gone the budgiet option...
New pads sometimes do take a bit to bed in. I see what you're thinking about the spring though
- it probably does act in an anti rattle role and whilst it's primarily there to hold the wear sensor
lead it's the only thing between the swing up part of the caliper and it's mounting lug. Thing is,
I'd expect that to cause minor judder rather than squeal and chirping. Copperease may certainly
improve matters but try it for a short while first!
I think the squeal will go quickly as they settle in and certainly by September be long gone!! lol
I wouldn't expect much decent weather for July/August as of course the kids are on holiday...

Re: trapped Budgie
If all else fails to remove the bird.
Try giving the leading edges of the pads a gentle chamfer.
Good luck.

Re: trapped Budgie
Did you clean out the pads' sockets with a small wire brush?
I find if I don't do that they end up squeaking.
Otherwise have you considered replacing the CAT?

Re: trapped Budgie

dont take it to a garage or you might get a big bill after there mechanic has stuck his beak in there
seriously though maybe the anti rattle spring is not qite in it seat/right place correctly,
