for a 2000 mk1 berlingo?
the haynes lists 5/30, 5/40 & 10/40
only aquired the car a few weeks ago but notice the temp guage reads 1/2 under normal driving, in traffic however it creeps over but doesn't hit the 3/4, could this be oil related?
im doing a full service so coolant and all filters will be changed as i dont know when they were last done.

Oh, petrol, not really sure about that I'm afraid but I'm sure someone who can will be along shortly. I think any of those mentioned would be OK, 10/40 would probably be the cheapest, the 5/ is only normally necessary for cold climates but it would improve winter cold starting.

Not really, just means you will need to change it more often.
