A BX ghost from the past ...

Unread post by AndersDK »

Hi -

Recently I purchased 4ea brake hoses for my present runner BX with ABS.
I got them from a UK Ebay seller advertising them as brake hoses for BX with ABS.

Did'nt bother to check the Motaquip part no, to be sure it was the ABS variant type of hose up for sale.
Which I should have done of course #-o
The hoses are Motaquip VBH832 - no longer available - but listed many places as ABS brake hoses.
They are not :^o
At least not according to the Citroen specs (and my BX with ABS  ) my side of the pond (LHD steering lands).
These hoses in question came with a standard female thread M8x1.25 for a 3.5mm pipe union.

Any true old BX DIY'er will know that the ABS variant uses 4.5mm brake lines on the ABS variant and therefore the front brake hose is threaded accordingly with a female M9x1.25 thread for the 4.5mm pipe union.

On questioning - Motaquip are adamant that these hoses are made for the ABS variant of the Citroen BX.
Have I overlooked something ?
Anyone with any early information on these hoses that could confirm that Motaquip is right ?
Could it be a variant for the UK RHD market only ?

Thanks for any comments

BTW : I settled with the seller on a discount, as the hoses are still valid for the standard (NON-abs) variants.

PS : If you check with Citroen service.net, please note that the hose thread is not listed on the hose.
But the 2-way pipe joiner on the firewall is listed with thread information.

I will check my boxes at work just to see if I have an old hose or two lurking.
Just found out today that there is a free App for IPhone or IPad called Tec Doc, and if you enter a part no, it will tell you who makes it and what cars it fits, might come in for any parts you see on eBay or at Auto jumbles, it works with that Motaquip no you quoted

A TecDoc app is possibly useful! I'm amazed at it being free.

Cheers guys 8-)
Nice seeing you keep up the forum in good shape :whip1:

Since my last visit I have been employed on a 1yr contract ending sept 1.st - as a Product Data Manager in the agriculture segment.
Very much the type of problems I have my self with the BX brake hose right now

I dont have apples in my pockets - I eat them (the apples !) .
Over here the I-thingies are expensive, non-working on gen4 and had their reputation badly spoiled by our local Apple s/w agent.
Anyways I'll dig in to that TecDoc and try it out - on my desktop PC.

Thanks / Anders

Hello Anders. Another blast from the past here too! I've just bought a set of hoses from http://www.brakeparts.co.uk/ for my ABS equipped estate and before I bought them asked them to check the thread size with an M9 tap.

I've just fitted them this evening, and it seems like the rubber hose is identical to the material used on the OE hoses (it has the same text), so should last as well as the originals. Hope that helps.

Thanks to Jim for resetting my forgotten password!
