You shouldn't need to run anything. With the old drive attached you can go in and drag your old emails onto your new one then open from the new installation.
Unfortunately it is a few years since I last did this and forget the details but a search for .pst files should locate them.
Last time I did it I just used a dongle to transfer them (slaved the hard drive to my machine).

I'm hopeful of this outcome. The address book is easy to spot, however I don't know the directory architecture nor the search method to reveal hidden files (as will include the archived emails).

I can't remember accurately how I approached it but there is a bit of a tutorial here Adam.
I'm sure I used Ubuntu when I did it and just unhid the folders/files.

I think Thunderbird will get the axe.

The problem is, I can't find a way to simulate the different, discrete identities of OE.

There's a few reasons you may want to separate all your email feeds - while it is good being able to access multiple accounts with one program, there are times when you don't actually want them all open at once - like perhaps an employee should be able to read business emails but you may not want them surveying the ins and outs of a recent squabble on the domestic side...

It's years since I used Thunderbird or Outlook but I am reasonably sure that there are quite advanced filtering solutions that would allow you to achieve what you are looking for.

Whether it is worth the effort if you have another option is another matter.

For outlook to do that you need to create outlook profiles. IIRC this only applies to Outlook and not Outlook express.

As for thunderbird im not sure if its possible with it as i only have limited experience of it.

I believe the outlook data file can be extracted easily enough, its usually in the place that link advises but with OUTLOOK EXPRESS at the end instead of just outlook :)

In that case you give them a different user on the PC and a different email address.

From what I remember of OE it didn't really keep different identities private, just allowed you to switch.

With Thunderbird you can have different email addresses using their own inboxes.

I've been using Thunderbird for some time now and it's excellent, especially when used as an IMAP client...

I also have Squirrelmail webmail and that is pretty excellent too. It's an IMA client behind the scenes and therefore it allows the same views of your mailbox as you see in Thunderbird...

And the beauty of both is they will work just as well on Windows as on Linux...
