I may have been too late.....

Unread post by old'uns »

.....and 'kaboom ' :bomb:
really bad today, screeching, juddering and general nastiness from pulley area.
limping home, no charging, ABS lights flashing, brake system etc, suddenly big bang & lights everywhere, engine stopped.
parked up & expecting to see bits everywhere, belts still on & looking normal.
AA arrive, crank it over, didn't fire & cam still turns.
recovered to garage, looking tomorrow, so i'm expecting belt/pulley etc as minimum, rockers maybe broken?
decision time me'thinks, trawling t'internet time

It's an HDi, so even if there has been valve / piston contact, then it will only have broken a few rockers. They're not cheap, and a full day's labour I should think to put it right. At >200k, I'd be thinking time to weigh it in...

quick update...
crank pulley was OK, new belt on, aux belt off , flat battery so with starter pack apparently it fired up straight away & ran.
from brief phone call tonight unless i heard wrong, power steering pump runs free, alternator the same, air con comp also spins, going to put aux belt back on tomorrow & try again.
i don't suppose the bang i heard would be DMF, causing engine to stall?
i put clutch in sharpish as soon as.....

AND WHY????? Theres pleanty of life left in 200k HDi's.. theres a few on here! Mine included which if something broke tomorrow Id fix it!

I can vouch for hdi Rocker fit and go... The green Taxi I look after broke its belt after it shreaded the Aux belt.. driver was dooing 50mph too... Simply lifted the cam, re fitted 8 rocker fingers.. re timed up, fitted a belt and off she went.. and 30k later still going strong!
