205D rear bump stops.

Unread post by centurus2400 »

I had an advisory on the MOT to say they were missing, but as the poor old thing was made in 1992 I can't really complain.
Are the rear bump stops common across the range, ones for the 205GTi seem plentiful enough on ebay but will they fit the humble 205D?
I haven't had a chance to get out and get my head under there to take a look yet.

All replies gratefully received.

Yes they are all the same.

There are several though for the rear axle area there are three variants for the 205F (old shape) and two for the newer (205N) shape. Basically axle type on old shape and disc or drum brakes on the newer shape.

The good news is all five share the same part number 516628 its only the other components around them that vary so a GTi one will fit, it has to as although they are rear disc in most cases, the part number hence part is the same.

Only difficult part may be getting the bolt(s) out. I think that varies as some may have captive threads in the axle (cannot remember to be honest) and some the bolt "lives" in the bump stop itself.

I believe it's captive nuts on the later ones at least. That was the case on my GTi and they were devils. Plenty of Plus Gas and patience will bring forth reward...

I'll add the pics tomorrow of the drum vs disc ones. I don't have access to it now (I should of done it earlier  when I did)

The stops are the same just the mounting method looks different, captive vs external bolt but the pic might be generic.

Thanks for the infomation chaps. Looks like I'd better buy a tin of Plus Gas as well as a pair of bump stops then.
The car has a lot of sentimental value as it belonged to my late father - not only that but it's a cracking little car to drive and not an ECU in sight :-D

They certainly are :-D I've had a few diesels and a GTi and loved them all. My daughter has a 206 one number different and not a patch. Not a bad car mind, it's just not anywhere near a 205.

My dad had a lovely '94 205D. He let it go under scrappage for a Nissan Pixo

He regrets it still...

Pics as promised. These are all 205N (newer shape, 1991 onwards) am including disc and drum models. You'll note the screw / mounting looks different, not sure in reality if it really is, has been a long time since I had to change one.
