has anyone changed a petrol xm engine to a diesel?if so how do you work out the wiring and the ecu?i am thinking of changing a 2.o for a 2.1.both are automatic gearboxes.

The only sensible way of doing such a change is to fit the engine loom from the donor vehicle. The ECU will be different.
On older diesel engines that didn't have electronic control this swap would have been releativly 'easy'. You may need the engine mountings etc.
The best way of doing this is to have the donor vehicle 'with you' because you will inevitably find something different that you had not considered.
Overall, a lot of work and unless you have some strong attatchment to your present car common sense says just go and buy a diesel that works!
