Hi there,
A bit of background. My car is a left hand drive Peugeot 406 1.8 Petrol 16v Manual 1997.
I think the engine is XU7JP4/L
About 6 months ago I decided to registered it in UK. One of the changes I did to keep DVLA happy was to change my working Speedo (showing only KPH) and putting a second hand one showing both MPH and KPH. Speedo kept working for 6 months. Recently Speedometer and Odometer have stopped working. Rev counter, Fuel gauge and water temperature are still working. If I put back my old working KPH speedo, it does the same everything works but Speedometer or Odometer.
I have tried to removed all fuses from drive compartment and put them back, to kind of reseting car. It doesn't work.
Any ideas will be appreciated.

Probably failure of the sensor which is mounted on the diff housing just above the entry of the o/s drive shaft (drivers side on a RHD) Its quite easy to change, held in with one bolt and a plug to remove. Can be found on ebay for not to much money.

Thanks Peter.N. for your quick reply.
You are actually talking with a foreign newbie. You are actually talking too technically for me. Would it be possible to send you a couple of pictures of car's engine so you can point to it? If so, can I do it through this website or an email will be nice.

balkido. Upload your pictures to a photo hosting site (Photobucket) and upload them to maximum quality but post them here as thumbnails.
Then everyone can see them but it doesn't cause unnecessary scrolling (huge images are a pain) but those interested can click the thumbnails and view a more detailed image.
There will be a few members that will have advice for you.

Here is the picture and a link to a bigger version for a closer look http://i1127.photobucket.com/albums/l63 ... ine1_2.jpg
So what I am looking for in there (and probably not shown) is the sensor. If anyone is so kind to tell is in row x column y starting from top left... If not shown I could take another picture from a different point.
Thanks

Its about under the back of the airbox below the brake fluid but about a few inchs to the left, but right down at the back, the description is just to help you look in the right area, its obviously on the gearbox itself.
If you look from underneath, the longer driveshaft (that is the one from the right hand wheel) where it goes into the transmission (not into its intermediate housing) just above that is a white unit with a plug on it.
I don't have a suitable pic to hand at the moment.

Re: 406 Speedo & Odometer not working, Rev Counter working
hi Balkido..
It could also be the speedo electronic mudule.. this is in the passenger footwell, above the carpet in there..
mine had failed twice and causes the loss of speedo and trip.. common fault with 406 coupes, so I imagine also with 406 saloons..
hope that helps
John
