Xantia ensuite

Unread post by aerodynamica »

I have decided to skip the shower today since the Xantia has now been fitted with an ensuite.

Help!!

I have spoken to CitroJim already and the best I can tell is that it's leaking 'ahead' of the sunroof trench. Just don't know but seems to be worst when the car is parked nose down hill

Doesn't seem to leak at all when it's not pointing down hill - either blocked front drains and clear back ones or detached front drains (as Jim suggested)

first thing to try is blow the front drain tube out from the bottom upwards,

not done this on a XANT yet but the BX front drain tubes are accesed behind the interia A panel trim,

That does sound like the front sunroof drains have detached themselves!

Don't forget the roof lining is impermeable so a leak can be anywhere and it will flow across the lining to end up at the lowest point...

Graeme - did you get the stuff i sent you the other day? A reprint of my Citroenian article on Xantia leaks... If not, I'll re-send it as it covers just about every base...

It was published in the November 2010 edition...

Early Xantias had trouble where the sunroof unit was not properly sealed to the roof causing just the sort of leak you have - I'd be very surprised if yours had made it this far without being fixed though! You may well have to take the roof lining out to see where the water is coming in, then proceed from there.

Cheers all!

I can confirm that it remained leak free all day today despite the hurricane.

Jim: yes, got your stuff and already considering dropping the headlining.

I noted that the water was coming from 'everywhere' fore of the sunroof gutter at the front edge with the access panel off. It could well be the gutter overflowing.

-Haha! true but this Xantia managed to make it through life without having the handbrake ratchet modification that they all had in 1994. Was on 'Watchdog'. I quite like that it has not been modded.

It has had the little hole drilled in the Infra Red dome though (that was a 'pan-Xantia' recall too)

Anyway, I'll be making an attempt to clear the front drains with air from below. Quick query: where are the ends? I wasn't clear from your article Jim - are they on the inside of the front wings ahead of the doors? - I couldn't spot them (in the dark)..

Sorry for the delay in responding Graeme. I was not at all well again yesterday but better today :)

the front drain exits are half-way up the A pillars and exit behind the plastic wing liners. You'll need to pull back the wing liners to examine them. A build-up of mid behind the wing liner is not unusual.

Using a jug of water in the sunroof channels will show if they're clear or not.

Rear drains exit in the very tops of the rear wheel arches and can be tested in the same way. Basically, if all sunroof drains are nice an d clear a jug of water poured into the sunroof drainage channels should result in four nice puddles - one by each wheel...
