Xantia TD 1999 - How do I get in to change bulb?

The full beam has failed on the O/S headlamp and for the life of me I can't see how to get access to the back of the light unit!! There is an ECU & A/C plumbing behind the N/S and battery close the O/S.

How do you get the back off the light unit.

Also stupidly went on a bulb website & checked the spec for the Xantia and they recommended H7 which of course I got but they are apparently H1!!!!!

Any advice very welcome

At the back of the light unit there is an oblong shaped cover about 7" long by 3" wide. It is secured at one end by a spring steel wire clip, push this to one side. The other end of the cover has 2 small pegs moulded as part of the cover and they engage with 2 corresponding slots on the back of the light unit. The cover simply pulls out from the wire clip end first.

It's a bit fiddly because of proximity of various bits and pieces as you have found. Take care when replacing 'cos its very easy to break off the moulded pegs....ask me how I know

The bulbs are H1 for main and dip beam.

Yes, Series 2 Xantia's front is H1 + H1 and fogs also H1.

I would have one addition: Remove the ECU box cover. This will give some room for the job

N/S has battery, O/S has ecu box which can be easily removed for better access, just take the top off by pressing the front and back tabs agains the lid, then gently slide out the ecu, remove the 2 10mm bolts and pull the box out.
