BX TD Fuel enricher hose

Unread post by Rob Marshall »

Im inquiring about the hose that goes from the intercooler to the lucas CAV fuel pump. The car is a TZD Turbo BX estate with 90,000 miles on clock. Ive owned it since 68,000, & been v.happy.
The pipe is covered in oily gunk. Everything else is clean. I am wondering whether to cut off this pipe & replace it at the enxt service. It doesnt look spilt but there must be a leak somewhere judging by the state of it. It has been like tha for about 8,000 miles so don't know if i have been losing performance.
Is the pipe a special one? If so (or if not!) where can I get one from????

It's sole purpose is to communicate air pressure to the additional fuel device on the pump and such should only carry air. Oily deposits always form in the inetrcooler and so some gets into this pipe and this is probably what you are seeing. If the pipe breaks the additional fuel ceases and nothing happens when the car should be on boost.
Yes you can replace it - I'd have thought some fuel hose would be suitable. remember the bit that goes to the warning light switch under the battery

yeah, I was thinking on the lines that as oil is seeping out, I may be loosing boost. The entiure piped is caked in oil! YUK!

any boost leakage is probably marginal - remember this setup is designed to produce masses of low pressure air, rather than a brake system which produces a tiny amount of high pressure fluid. the main concern is good communication with the additional fuel device but i doubt if a small loss would make any real difference. As a point of interest when the pipe came of the warning switch on mine, replacing it made no difference at all!

They are always full of oil too, I was worried that my motor was leaking/burning oil but "They All Do that Sir"
