306 immobiliser

Hi Guys
Recently got a new 306 TD Estaste.
Was wondering how do I know if its got the immobiliser fitted. I know it doesn't have the alarm, as theres no switch/light on the side of the steering column.

Hi!
I am aware that there are two different forms of immobiliser.
One is quite easy to spot as it uses a keypad to disable it.
The second uses a chip inside the key. When the key is placed in the ignition and turned, a coil around the barrel energises, sending a pulse to the chip in the key. If the chip is recognised, the engine starts!
This can be checked on 306's by removing the key blade from the main body of the key (on my key there is a screw that undoes the casing, and also allows the key blade to be pulled straight out). If the car still starts when you just use the key blade, there probably isn't an immobiliser fitted.

I don't obviously have the keypad. I couldn't stand entering the code everytime you want to move.
I opened up the key, and found a little chip on the side, like a wedge. I removed this, and the car wouldn't start. Put the chip back, and it starts.
I only wish it was made more obvious whats included in the actual car, and what isn't.

There is one good thing about the keypad, if someone has nicked your keys, they aint starting & driving away your car.

Before anyone says anything, My keypad code isnt 1111, my digits are all different [:D]

Yes, the keypad does have its advantages I suppose, unless its like the nanny who looks after the kid where i'm currently working.
Her 306xnd has the keypad, and I had to move her car a few weeks ago, guess the combination ( 111 ) and that's not a typo, its only a 3 digit code. I take it from other posts on here that this is the default code then. Nice and secure [:D]

Yes, thats the factory code, thats also the first code the little gits try when the break into your motor before they bypass the keypad, lol.
