I've cryptically referred back to my car's thirst on .co.uk, however I'll expand a little here.
Found an almightly vacuum leak where the depollution electrovalve had busted in two, allowing a 3/8" ID line to feed air into the throttle body. Clamped the line shut and instantly, better brakes off a cold start, better economy by 20% and slightly better response off the pedal.
Expect the CAS and plug lead issues will sort out even more foibles.

Great news you've found the cause of the high consumption Adam
Not such good news on the original topic of this thread. The repair did not last and the epoxy was found gooey and not doing its job..
I tried another repair attempt but with the same result and have reached a conclusion that anti-freeze and heat attacks it over time...
So, I've bitten the bullet and have a new rad on order... Even if I tried another repair attempt I'd not be able to trust it so a new one is the only answer...
Hopefully the bottom bayonet will not be a problem this time...
