Speed bump test - 5th gear

I don't know if this has been on before but I thought it was worth posting up, saw it a couple of years ago and forgot about it until I just came across it!

I wonder how recently the spheres were changed on that Xantia, it could be even better! And what about the strut tops

That was interesting Dom and no news to us..

What would have been more revealing would have been to have repeated the tests in a Hydractive car... Looks like the Xantia was just an ordinary one..

Then for fairness, repeat in an Activa...

And then in a DS or CX with longer travel suspension. The Xantia would have surely bottomed out, especially at the rear...

Still, it was good to see the Xantia gain some positive press for once

No worries on the strut tops so long as the fronnt corners were good...

Some of the speed bumps do strange things on the Xantia and C5, in Cirencester where I make the occasional visit they have two small separate blobs, one each side of the road instead of one wide one.

If you try to avoid them by driving through the middle it's like you have no springs at all, really jars your teeth.

I fancy a CX... Did they do an economical diesel that'll enjoy a bit of veg oil?

I know there was a turbo diesel, old school mechanical.
CX's aren't the most durable cars, tin wise that is, and I think there can be a major issue with the hydraulics that will effectively write one off if it goes wrong ! Puts on flame suit !!

I ran CX's for 10 years or more having covered over 150,000 miles in my last one a CX25 DTR Turbo Safari. They were a superb car for comfort, space and handling due to the central mounted steering knuckles and diravi steering but not as softer ride as the DS. They were a good old fashioned engine that would run on practically anything. There was one for sale in Classic Car a couple of weeks ago for £800.00 - I was sorely tempted.

I know that Dave (davetherave) runs his on Veg Oil.

Can't beat a nice CX - although I prefer the petrol Turbos (GTi Turbos) much more than the diesels...

Get a good rust free CX (yes, there are some!) and you'll be OK - buy on condition and then go for model. You'll find a car you'll want in the end, although prices are on the up...

The spheres dont appear to be in great condition on that Xantia, it should be so much better over there
