To renew all the O-ring seals in a "streetfront" environment, what's a typical elapsed time? Any odd tools required or torque setting to watch?
2.0 16V if it affects ease of removal...

Addo, are you talking about just the two output unions, you know the ones that give all the bother?
'Tis possible in the street. Suppose about 20-30 mins. Hardest bit is taking off and refitting some of the pipe support brackets, if you do not want to bend the pipework too much.
If you're looking to venture deeper into the pump innards, a nice clean bench is a must.

Of course my kitchen bench is clean!
Heat here, seems to stress rubber bits just that extra amount. A piece of vacuum hose on some parts from Mr Smart was - compared to ours - like the day it was made, in terms of suppleness. My oil vapour hoses are shattered and bodged until I remember to order more; no reason to suspect the pump seals are much better...

Where did it start going wrong?
When the aux belt tensioner exploded at the square eye.
Shonked it off anyhow. Spring coil was wedged with road gravel and wouldn't rotate.
Then the pump feed pipe shattered. Cue Malcolm: The rubber was really hard. Ah well; can sort that out next day.
So, it then came apart:


Wear was noticeable to the poppet valve bodies, on the running faces. You'd think they could angle the bores and put a base radius on them. I also noticed bronze powder in the LHM.
PSA parts don't get the number of O-rings right for each type, nor do they cover the front O-ring. It's 36mm ID × 2.5mm thickness. Bought four at $1.20 total - sometimes you win.
Pump was a mongrel to extract, but hopefully a little cleanliness upon refitting will ease the way... More pics tomorrow.

Get some silicon tubing from the boy racers to replace the LHM feed pipe.
