Not at all Jim, Don't be daft!

I have also found out that the car is only a few miles from Wetherby on the other side of York so I may be able to jump across, view the car and drop my papers off.

Theres nothing special about the actual bonnet, the pyrotechnic stuff is attatched to the hinges. In this case it doesent seem to have deployed anyway, it only deploys between about 20-40 mph, there also needs to be a frontal impact aswell.

Trouble with all that, is dishonesty starts at the top and trickles down. Consider how few pollies could truthfully say their wage is deserved.

That Adam, is a very good point... They say most become pollies because they are incapable of doing a normal job due to their affliction; the inability to tell any sort of truth under any circumstance.

Me? I'd not trust one to tell me the time...

On the salary side, not the honesty side, they also level the same criticism at members of my profession.

Years ago a workmate told me of his answer to his young lad when questioned how much he earned....

"Oh, about half of it son..."

Well here's an idea as to why it was written off:

Bonnet: £669.13
Bumper: £1212
Headlights: £1187.75 EACH
Wings: £164.84 Each
Door: £577.93
Wishbone: £157.33
Hub: £158.84
Curtain Airbag: £365.77
Rear Side Airbag: £286.13
Knee Airbag: £507.67
Airbag ECU: £262.09

So there's £6,902 with only the stuff that you can see.

It'll probably need a subframe, an alloy wheel, possibly a steering rack, and all sorts of bits of plastic and sound proofing etc.

Be interesting to obtain the quote that the garage submitted to the insurance company for the repairs.

When our C5 estate was bumped into earlier in the year the repairs came to around £5000 for what was a fairly minor bump. It was very close to being written off due to costs even though the damage was limited and non structural. So I can see why this 10 plate C6 has been classed as a CAT C, costs through insurance companies soon escalate. I was astonished to see an itemised bill for ours.

Almost £1200 for a C6 headlight! Im certainly not getting a C6, don't want to get a chip in one do you! That'll be an issue when the car becomes really cheap.

...well we are members on Copart and have been for a while - obviously depending on price dad may have a punt.

We seem to think that it'll make a couple of grand though... :-k

If motors don't auction high enough for Copart they are bought by 'u-pull-it' part of Copart Company.

Then broken for parts.

...and U Pull It refuse to sell any car whole to take away, like what happened to a CX GTi Turbo 2 a while back.

Admittedly this one was a Cat B though...

Almost £1200 for a C6 headlight
FFS

(For Franklin's Sake.... or something like that) :lolsign:

I've recently bought a pair of headlights for my XM "just in case" and they cost me twenty something including delivery.

I'm afraid those kinds of repairs/parts prices will never be within my range. good luck to those of you who can \:D/

Parts prices of C6s and their limited availability are really going to hit the values and numbers hard in a few years I think. I really like them but they are something to own when fairly recent in my opinion, not when they are getting on a bit.

To run an older C6 will be like running a Jaguar, if you want one on the road at all times you need to buy two

I think you are right Chris; the chap I bought my XM V6 from was replacing it with a C6 which he kindly gave me a ride in. It was a lovely place to be, but then so is an XM and while some parts are increasingly hard to find, at least the prices of those that do exist have some basis in reality.
