Just as stupid idea Jim, but could you mabe fab up a dolly if you get the steel?
Justs a thought and if you do go wond the dolly or bean rod to get it, second drivere here if ya need it.

Unfortunately the XM in question has no tax so a dolly is out, all 4 wheels have to be off the road.

you used to be able to tow an un/taxed/MOT'ed car with one axle off the road,

i think these days the towing device has to be braked,

the other point you cant tow a dead hydraulic citroen on a dolly, unless you can pump the suspension up to normal ride hight,

There are different rules regarding towing a broken down car & a non broken down car. If your using an 'A' frame it doesent need a braking device if it's a broken down car but if you were just transporting a car it needs to be braked if it weighs more than 750kg.
The fact that the tax has run out I don't know if this would be regarded as a 'broken down' car ?

Hi Jim,

Like I said on the phone the other day, there's no hurry to move the car so if it needs to sit whilst we sort something out it's not a problem.

I'm amazed at how much of a waste of space these hauliers are turning out to be!

I'm waiting to hear back from the guy I contacted and will let you know when I do.

Well, the plan to hire a truck and go all the way to Scotland was a non-starter with the hire plus the fuel and so on...

So, we have a new plan. Can't call it Plan B as that one hit the rocks weeks ago. More like Plan R...

Anyhow, not going to say any more until all is signed, sealed and delivered...

In a way Jim, I'm glad you didn't opt for the transporter route as I'm sure you would have been overweight and the consequences are not good.

£1 a KG fine IIRC that you are over the 3500KG limit, and then you have to get alternate transport back as they won't let you leave with the car on the back. All in all a very costly affair...we found out the hard way when our transport chap collected a Jensen for us...

Rather than the expense of a specialist transporter vehicle, standard vans are much cheaper. Hire one of them....
