According to here the XM V6 weighs 1420KG

Here provide a 1500Kg load at £180 for the weekend including 500 miles (9ppm after that)

They've got a depot in Glasgow, so there's the possibility of being driven up, say in a comfortable 1.9TD estate taking it nice and steady, picking up the transporter and then getting the car.
Spare wheel, battery, seats, fuel syphoned out into jerry cans, and anything else heavy can be loaded into said comfortable 1.9TD estate to ensure you're under the 3.5T limit, then trundle home.
This is assuming they allow returning the transporter to another depot, otherwise it's just go up in convoy :)

They have a depot in Northampton....

I think a plan of going up in Cassy and doing the transporter one way may be FTW..
