Hi All
What engines don't have the filter in place, Is it only the 2.0Hdi on the Mk1 C5.
I am on the lookout for a C5 after threatining to change the Xantia i have decided to go for C5..
Did look at a Merceded Cdi 270 Avantgarde and was tempted but decided no..
Any info on this filter would be appreciated.
Thanks
Russ..

Yes, the 2.0HDi 90 & 110 in the C5I does not have a FAP filter.
Also there is a model (I suppose it might be called a special edition) in the C5II (or facelift) called the 'Design' which has the 1.6HDi 110 and NO-FAP - apparently, according to Citroen info. This Design model was based on the LX C5II but with a few extras, such as alloy wheels. It was available in hatch and estate and they are out there to find. They are not badged Design but they have black bumper trims an 16" alloy wheels (LX has 16" steels and trims).
However the FAP is not something to be warned off by, especially on the 1.6 and 2.0HDi 138 which last longer between FAP services and if not confined to only town driving should remain reliable.
If you want the most hardy and well proven C5s, get a later 04/54 C5I with a 2.0HDi 110 engine.
If you want the newer shape then my advice would be the 2.0 HDi 16v, as its very refined, 6 speed box, very effiecient on fuel and drives really nicely. Or if you really want to avoid a FAP filter, hunt down a 1.6HDi Design.

No Problem
A 2.0HDi 110 SX/Exclusive would be a good replacement for your Xantia, they can be had very cheaply now too. 52reg onwards in my opinion, more ironed out.
