Thought I'd share these:

Seized by UK Borders Agency and sent for auction was this C5 2.2 HDi SX. You can see that they removed the rear bumper and fashioned some little pockets for the drugs to be smuggled. The same was done in the front wheel arches. The interior was equally appalling, 154k miles and a dash lit up like a Christmas tree. It sold for £350.

Yep ^^

And they have yet to realise that Renaults with the proximity key can be unlocked and driven away with the key in the box!

Ive never seen that bumper mod done before! You do wonder how many times it has worked without them being found, as that can't be an easy thing to spot with the bumper on.

Are those key boxes locked when they are fitted to the car?

 You thought they would have realised about the Renault issue!

I have been having a good few car spots in France.

Surely if that was the case the car wouldn't stay locked?

Would the signal to/from the key be strong enough to penetrate the metal box?

No, the car won't stay locked, if you went for the handle it would unlock.

I tested a LagunaIII loan car we had, it was in the garage and the key card was in the back of the garage/house door, the car opened and I could drive it out of the garage! Could be problematic if you park your car near the front door and leave your keys in the door

Yep, the key boxes are locked with the key in them. Each key box opens with the same key, so it's a handy way of storing the keys.

The car gets locked by the button on the fob when the driver gets out, but then if anybody tugs the handle while the car is parked, it will unlock. The car normally won't start as it can tell the key is still on the outside of the car, but most Renault's basic electric features are activated when the car is unlocked... so you can put the window down, take the key box off the door, hold it inside the car and voila!

Its a shame you were not in your dads C6, that would have been a good photo opportunity!

I don't think C6s are rare enough to be official spots as yet

The 1995 Xantia I see everyday:

Mint and driven by an old man... shame it's diesel :(

Rather beautiful C6. I don't really like them, but the front of them is fantastic. I had a glance at the tax disc as I walked past - £445 for the year. You wouldn't catch me paying that to keep a diesel Citroen on the road when a 3.5 V6 Petrol Vel Satis will be £245 a year!
